Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins Speaks to the Westchester County YMCA Youth and Government Group in Preparation for a Statewide Competition

(Yonkers, NY)- On Wednesday, February 3rd New York State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins spoke to the Westchester County YMCA Youth and Government Group as they prepare for a statewide conference they will be attending next month. Comprised of students from Pleasantville High School and the Yonkers YMCA, the Westchester County Youth and Government Group meets twice a month at Mercy College to learn public speaking skills, civics and legislative drafting.

Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins Holds Medicare Enrollment Awareness Event; Helps seniors maximize coverage and reduce costs

(Yonkers, NY) - Today, Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins and the Medicare Rights Center held a “Medicare Enrollment Awareness” event at the YWCA in Yonkers. The current enrollment period will last through the end of March. During this time, older adults are able to change their plan to maximize their coverage and reduce their deductibles or other costs.

SENATE ACTS TO PROTECT NURSES FROM VIOLENCE; Legislation Raises Assault Penalty to Class C or D

           State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D/WF – 35th District) announced today that the Senate approved legislation strengthening the penalties for individuals who injure or attempt to injure nurses while on duty.  The bill renders penalty for assault on registered nurses (RN) and licensed practical nurses (LPN) a class C or D felony.

She said that in the 1960s it was impossible for an African-American to become a delegate to either the Republican or Democratic convention. “Today, we have a president who is an African-American.
