Senate Unveils Budget Reform Legislation

Package of Bills will Ensure Fiscal Responsibility

State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D/WF – 35th District) announced that the Senate has put forth comprehensive budget reforms that will end short term wasteful spending and ensure the enactment of a fiscally responsible budget. Phelps' Special Care Nursery offers medical care to newborns that require hospitalization, including infants that are born up to 34 weeks premature.

Westchester Herald: Senator Stewart-Cousins Informs Grandparent Caregivers About Financial Assistance Program

Westchester Herald (March 15, 2010)

Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, in partnership with the Kinship Caregiver Program, is working to inform residents about financial assistance available to grandparents and other relatives raising children. The individuals currently enrolled in the program receive an average of $400 per month to care for a child and $150 for any additional children. However, due to limited awareness about this program, it is estimated that only 10% of New Yorkers who qualify for assistance apply to the program…

Senate Honors Greenburgh Woman

The state Senate yesterday passed a resolution h0noring Dr. Olivia Hooker, a Greenburgh resident and a psychologist and former college professor at Fordham University.

Born in 1915, Hooker was the first African-American woman to enlist in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and is a survivor of the Tulsa Riot of 1921, Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins, D-Yonkers, said in a news release.

The senator said she introduced the resolution to honor Hooker’s achievements and contributions to the women and civil rights movements...

Senator says progress being made with 9/11 related worker claims

State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D/WF – 35th District), the Senate sponsor of “Jimmy Nolan’s Law”, which allowed 9/11 workers a one year extension to file injury claims, announced today that she was encouraged that New York City is finally taking steps to resolve the claims of thousands of workers who have sustained long term health problems as a result of their work at the World Trade Center site.

Congratulations To The Students of YMCA Youth & Government Group

On Saturday, March 27th Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins presented certificates of achievement to participants of the YMCA Youth and Government Group, at a reception held at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York. Last year, Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins secured funding through a legislative grant to create the Youth and Government Group, comprised of students from Pleasantville High School and the Yonkers YMCA.

New York State Senate Passes Resolution Honoring Dr. Olivia Hooker

(35th District, NY) - On Wednesday, March 24th, the New York State Senate passed a Legislative Resolution honoring Dr. Olivia Hooker, a psychologist and former college professor at Fordham University who resides in Greenburgh, New York. Senate Majority Committed To Saving Our Parks

Senate Democrats Preserve Recreational Facilities and Bolster Small Businesses

Today, the Senate Majority and advocates stood together in support of State Parks.

On Monday, the Majority Conference unanimously voted for a budget resolution which restored all $11.5 million of the Governor’s budget cuts to parks operations. If enacted, the cut would have resulted in the closure of 57 State Parks and reduced operations at an additional 22 State Parks.
