New Yorks' November 5th ballot includes many ballot measures, some of which will affect New Yorkers for decades or more. Some issues addressed by the propositions include casino gambling, service credits for veterans, age limits for judges, and a proposed land exchange to allow mining in the Adirondacks. Also to be decided this election day are the mayoral, district attorney, and county executive races for many cities and counties throughout New York State.

80th Anniversary of Deadly Forced Famine, Holodomor, Remembered (Source: Fox23News.com)

Colonie, NY - A little known tragedy in world history was remembered tonight as Ukrainian Americans in the Capital District begin a week of activities to mark 80 years since the forced famine that killed millions in the 1930’s.

An exhibit on what’s called the Holodomor, or death by hunger, is on display all week at the Colonie Town Library.

On Monday night the library was also the site of the screening of a documentary on the famine genocide.

Groundbreaking for Ben’s Kosher Deli and Restaurant in Scarsdale

Senator Stewart-Cousins broke ground at Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen and Restaurant in Scarsdale. The two story facility located on Central Avenue will offer kosher catering deli and restaurant service. It will also have a full bar and feature an extensive list of freshly made daily specials that will appeal to a broader customer base, in addition to the traditional Kosher deli fare that made Ben's famous. This will be Ben's seventh location, joining its three locations in Long Island, one in Queens, one in Manhattan and one in Boca Raton, FL.

Senator Stewart-Cousins Earns High Marks in Environmental Advocate Ranking

EPL/ Environmental Advocates released their annual legislative score card and Senator Stewart-Cousins received the second highest score of any member of the Senate. Each year, the advocacy group grades legislators on their environmental voting records on a select group of bills chosen by the organization called “super bills”. Senator Stewart-Cousins consistently places near the top of the rankings each year. This year, EPL/ Environmental Advocates had far fewer bills from which to grade legislators in the State Senate because that body only voted on 11 environmental bills, compared to 26 in the Assembly.

New York State of Health: Getting Started with the New, More Affordable Health Plan

Under the federal Affordable Care Act, New York's new marketplace for health insurance debuted on October 1st. New York State of Health (NYSOH) is an organized marketplace of health insurance policies designed to help New Yorkers find affordable health coverage. NYSOH allows visitors to compare costs, determine eligibility, evaluate insurance options, and purchase health insurance online, in person, or by mail. NYSOH also tells applicants what financial assistance is available to them when buying coverage through the marketplace.
