VFW Empire Post #375's Annual Veterans Day Ceremony

Senator Stewart-Cousins thanked the veterans of the VFW Empire Post #375's for their service to our country at their Annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, November 11th in Yonkers, NY. Senator Stewart-Cousins, whose father was a member of the "Buffalo Soldiers" 92nd Infantry Division and fought in Italy during WWII, mentioned in her speech, "Due to my father's and millions of other veterans' unrelenting persistence and selflessness to defend this country, we are able to enjoy days like Veterans' Day."

Seely Place Elementary School "Take A Vet To School Day"

On Wednesday, November 6th, Seely Place Elementary School in Edgemont participated in The History Channel's "Take A Vet To School Day", a national program that encourages communities and schools to invite veterans of all backgrounds to share their stories and receive thanks for their service on or around Veterans Day. At this event, Senator Stewart-Cousins spoke to a group of over 400 elementary school children about her father and brother's WWII and Vietnam War experiences and the importance of honoring veterans because of the vital roles they play in defending our nation.

Montefiore Acquisition of Sound Shore Medical Center Press Conference

On November 6th, Senator Stewart-Cousins spoke at the press conference announcing the acquisition of Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle by Montefiore. SSMC was at risk of closing, but Montefiore's acquisition will save hundreds of jobs and maintain access to health care for the New Rochelle community. Regeneron Groundbreaking Ceremony

Senator Stewart-Cousins broke ground at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, kicking off the expansion project of the company's corporate headquarters and laboratories in Westchester County. New York State contributed $8.5 million in tax credits through the Excelsior Jobs Program to make this expansion possible.

Don't forget, November 5th is Election Day, an opportunity to make our voices heard and shape the future of our state and its policies. When more New Yorkers vote, democracy thrives and our government more truly represents the people it’s meant to serve.

New Yorks' November 5th ballot includes many ballot measures, some of which will affect New Yorkers for decades or more. Some issues addressed by the propositions include casino gambling, service credits for veterans, age limits for judges, and a proposed land exchange to allow mining in the Adirondacks. Also to be decided this election day are the mayoral, district attorney, and county executive races for many cities and counties throughout New York State.

80th Anniversary of Deadly Forced Famine, Holodomor, Remembered (Source: Fox23News.com)

Colonie, NY - A little known tragedy in world history was remembered tonight as Ukrainian Americans in the Capital District begin a week of activities to mark 80 years since the forced famine that killed millions in the 1930’s.

An exhibit on what’s called the Holodomor, or death by hunger, is on display all week at the Colonie Town Library.

On Monday night the library was also the site of the screening of a documentary on the famine genocide.
