SENATE PASSES BILL TO PREVENT CYBERBULLYING


The New York State Senate recently passed legislation, cosponsored by Senator Andrew Lanza, that would provide further protections and procedures for students who are bullied or cyberbullied. The legislation clarifies and expands the Dignity for All Students Act, an anti-cyberbullying law enacted in 2010 and creates guidelines for local school districts to develop policies and procedures to address the problem.

SENATOR LANZA ANNOUNCES SENATE PASSAGE OF BILL TO CRIMINALIZE GANG ACTIVITIES IN AND AROUND SCHOOLS

The Senate today gave passage to Senate Bill S.2940, sponsored by Senator Andrew Lanza, which criminalizes gang activities in and around schools. City Parks Foundation Announces Free Summer Sports Program Schedule

Yesterday, the City Parks Foundation announced its Free Summer Sports Program schedule. Starting on July 2nd, the program will offer free instruction in tennis, golf, and track and field to youths ages 5 to 16. SENATE PASSES LEGISLATION WHICH MAKES VIEWING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY A FELONY

 Bill closes loophole after Court of Appeals ruling that it is not a crime

       The New York State Senate today passed legislation (S.7407),co-sponsored by Senator Andrew Lanza (Staten Island), that would make theviewing of child pornography a felony crime. The bill amends current statelaw to say that a person is guilty of a crime when the person knowinglyaccesses child pornography with the intent to view.

       The legislation comes after a state Court of Appeals ruling earlierthis month that said viewing child pornography on the Internet is not acrime. This legislation closes that loophole.
