STATEN ISLANDERS SHOULD CALL 311 TO REPORT DAMAGE INCURRED DURING SEPT. 16 STORM - Information collected will be used to determine eligibility for FEMA disaster declarations

Residents affected by last night’s storm should call 311 to report any damage to their homes or businesses. In order to qualify for disaster relief assistance, New York City must estimate the storm's total effect on city residents and employees. Residents should be prepared to answer questions about the extent of their property damage, and should take photographs, if possible, of any damage prior to debris removal or repair.

For years now elected officials on Staten Island – both Republican and Democrat - have pled with DEC to protect residents from these invasive and combustible weeds which cause dangerous brush fires. Senator Lanza’s bill, S.6238, requires the MTA to offer seniors a 50% discounton bridge and tunnel tolls. “Many of our seniors, who live on fixed incomes, are finding it more and more difficult to makes ends meet,” said Senator Lanza.

Talk Of Trash Tax Already Causing A Stink

The Bloomberg administration is considering making New Yorkers pay for garbage pickup as a way to help solve the city's financial crisis.

Proponents of the idea say it would also cut down on waste.

A former sanitation official says many New Yorkers could end up paying less overall taxes if trash collection is separated from general taxes, and people are charged for what they throw away, not their neighbors.

Paying for trash pickup is widely practiced elsewhere.

I’ve talked to so many families that are worried about the future – they want more job security, a good education and opportunities for their children.
