CONSUMER ALERT: SENATOR LANZA WARNS NEW YORKERS ABOUT THE GROWING TREND OF CHILD-IDENTITY THEFT

Senator Andrew Lanza today alerted parents, guardians and young adults about a growing trend of child identity theft. These victims may not discover their identities have been stolen until they begin applying for loans, credit card accounts, or renting their first apartment.Child identify theft is often a crime that is not realized until years later after damage has already been done to a stolen identity. New Yorkers need to be aware of this growing trend and be proactive in their efforts to protect their children’s identities and personal information.

Good News for Animal Lovers: New Laws Give Pet Owners More Rights & Take Aim at Unscrupulous Pet Dealers

As an animal lover, Senator Lanza knows first-hand that there’s something truly special about the bond between a family and their pets.

Governor Cuomo Expands Sandy Buyout Zone in Oakwood Beach After Letter from Sens. Lanza and Savino

From the Staten Island Advance:

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Cuomo administration has enhanced the home buyout zone in a portion of Oakwood Beach ravaged by superstorm Sandy.

About 120 homes on the periphery of Fox Beach were added by the state, bringing to 300 the number of homes eligible for a buyout, with a potential expansion to 510 homes.

The area, which borders city, state and federally-owned land, includes Riga Street, Merkel Place and Delwit Avenue, which were initially left out of the enhanced buyout area outlined by the state.

The homes are now eligible for a pre-storm value buyout, along with a 10 percent incentive if the homeowners remain residents of Staten Island.

TURKEY UPDATE:

The USDA has responded to my office. Unfortunately the birds were destroyed the same day that they were collected. My office will now look into whether we can implement a better process to avoid what has happened here. Once again it is very frustrating to know that over the last several years we have provided the DEC with relocation options that would not have cost the taxpayers any money.

Senator Lanza Statement on Stay of Execution for Staten Island Turkeys

Many of you may be aware of the ongoing issue regarding the wild turkeys inhabiting parts of Staten Island. Over the last two days I have been trying to achieve a stay of execution because I believe a wholesale slaughter is the wrong result. I recognize that these turkeys have become a nuisance to some, however, I do not approve of the decision made by the DEC, the South Beach Psychiatric Center and United States Department of Agriculture to capture the turkeys and send them to slaughter. I have advocated for a good management program for this population for many years now.
