Brief Detour for Manhattan and Brooklyn-bound Drivers Exiting Verrazano-Narrows Bridge from 11 PM to 7 AM, Sat., Dec. 10th into Sun., Dec.11th. Motorists driving into Manhattan or Brooklyn using the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will be diverted to the 92nd Street exit ramp while a portion of the Gowanus Expressway just off the bridge is closed for the removal of an electronic sign beginning Sat., Dec. 10th at 11 p.m. through Sun., Dec. 11th at 7 a.m. All traffic exiting the bridge will be diverted to the 92nd Street exit. Drivers will stay on the service road a short distance and will re-enter the Expressway at 86th Street

The U.S. Army’s 436 TC Battalion’s Family Readiness Group is planning its next Family Day for Sunday, Dec. 11, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Bloomfield.

A number of soldiers from the battalion have recently returned from serving overseas or will soon be deployed, and the event will present an opportunity for them to spend an enjoyable, much-deserved day with their families.

The organization’s goal is to ensure that no soldier pay for the event. The cost of the dinner is $20 per person.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended the registration deadline for anyone who suffered damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee this summer.

Those affected by either storm now have until

Help Restore Yellow School Bus Service For Staten Island Students

Senator Andrew Lanza is leading the fight to ensure that Staten Island students will have their yellow school bus service restored. Lanza recently secured passage of his legislation (S.2328) that will require the New York City Department of Education to provide school bus service to ALL students citywide who are in need of transportation. Senator Andrew Lanza is hosting a book drive to benefit Public School 3 on Staten Island. The book drive begins Tuesday, Nov. 1st and continues until Thursday, Dec. 15th. The drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at Senator Lanza’s Elltingville office located at 3845 Richmond Ave. Residents are encouraged to donate new or used children’s books, appropriate for students in grades K-5, to benefit P.S. 3’s library.
