Senator Andrew Lanza, Assemblyman Matthew Titone, Assemblyman Joseph Borelli and Senator Diane Savino announced today that the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is now accepting applications for four $2,000 scholarships to be awarded June 9, 2014 at their Annual Legislative Conference Day.
This year, the Italian-American State Legislators Conference will be awarding four $2,000 scholarships to four current or future college students from New York State. Eligibility will be based upon the student’s grade point average, interest in pursuing a higher education, involvement in the local community as well as individual financial need.

Measure Gives More People Access to Antidote That Prevents Accidental Overdose Deaths from Heroin and Other Opioids
The New York State Senate today passed legislation to help save lives by increasing access to a highly effective antidote for accidental drug overdose known as Naloxone or Narcan. The bill (S6477B), cosponsored by Senator Andrew Lanza, allows authorized health care professionals to issue non-patient specific orders for Naloxone to certified training programs and pharmacies, which could then distribute the Naloxone kits and instruct how to properly administer it. If timely administered, Naloxone can prevent an overdose death.
Short-Term Loans Now Available Through Participating Lenders
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and Senator Andrew Lanza today announced the launch of the Bridge to Success loan program, now available through participating lenders committing at least $20 million to expand access to short-term bridge loans for Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBEs). The program will provide qualified MWBEs with the short-term resources they need to participate in up to $1 billion in contracting opportunities with New York State.
