SCAM ALERT: How the ‘one ring scam' can cost you money

When your phone rings and you miss the call, do you call back to see who it was?

Con artists know a lot of us will do that, and they're using this curiosity factor to cram unauthorized charges onto people's phone bills.

The Better Business Bureau recently issued a fraud alert for the "one ring scam" after being contacted by people all across the country. Here's how it works.

The scammers use automatic dialers to randomly call phone numbers. After the first ring, they disconnect. The bad guys hope you'll see that number in your missed call log and be curious enough to return it.

Make that call and they've got you.

Senator Lanza, Senate Co-Leaders Skelos & Klein and Education Chair Flanagan issued the following statement:

We continue to support the goals of an improved education curriculum that increases standards and ensures that students are college and career ready.

However, after having spent months listening to parents, teachers, administrators and educational professionals at public hearings conducted throughout New York State, it is our belief that while the implementation of Common Core Learning Standards may have been well intended, it has been poorly executed.

Senator Andrew Lanza, Assemblyman Michael Cusick and Richmond County D.A. Dan Donovan today called on the NYS Dept. of Health to crack down on interstate ‘doctor shopping’ and overprescribing in New York State. In a joint letter to State Health Commissioner Dr. Nirav R. SENATOR LANZA SUPPORTS NY "JOBS FOR HEROES" PROGRAM TO ASSIST DISABLED VETERANS

Last year, Senator Andrew Lanza voted for the NY Jobs For Heroes Program, a plan that would create a state contract preference for service-connected disabled veteran-owned small businesses in New York State. The Senate-approved legislation mirrors the highly successful federal program that is presently established for a contract set aside.

Currently, nearly 40 other states are successfully using this program. Unfortunately, the bill was not addressed in the New York State Assembly.

Providing this earned opportunity to our heroes is commonsense. That is why Lanza was enthused by the Governor’s support of this plan in his recent State of the State Address.
