Buffalo, NY – New York State Senator Antoine Thompson (D-parts of Erie & Niagara counties) along with representatives from Solar Liberty and the Buffalo City Mission recently “flipped the switch” on a new solar energy system at one of the city’s largest homeless shelters.  The 204 panel roof-top system will produce 53,600 kWh of electricity, which is expected to save the Mission an estimated $6,700 in utility costs in its first year.

Senator Thompson: Prior Law Allowed Tenants to be Forced from Homes without Notice

(Buffalo, NY) Senator Antoine M. Thompson (D- Parts of Erie and Niagara counties) announced that a new law guaranteeing greater protections (S7139) for tenants of buildings in foreclosure has been signed into law. Under the Senate’s new law, rent-regulated tenants are now required to receive a notice of their housing rights, along with a notice of the building owner’s foreclosure. The bill takes effect 30 days from the date of signing.

Buffalo, NY – Crucial legislation to protect drinking water was passed by the New York State  Senate by a vote of 48 to 9.  Sponsored  by New York State Senator Antoine Thompson ( D-parts of  Erie & Niagara Counties), the bill (S8129B) suspends permits for hydro-fracking in New York State until May 15, 2011, giving the Department of Environmental Conservation, the Legislature and the incoming Governor time to enact safeguards to protect New York’s water.

Buffalo, NY – Landmark  legislation sponsored  by New York State Senator Antoine Thompson ( D-parts of  Erie & Niagara Counties) becomes law.  The bill (S3296) bans the use of  Bishpenol-A in products for children age three and under.  NY Governor  David Paterson signed the bill into law Friday, July 30, 2010.

The bill (#S3296) includes childcare products such as pacifiers, baby bottles, baby bottle liners, cups, cup lids, straws  and sippy cups.  Parents have innocently exposed their children to this product for years without knowing the risk.
