Holiday Plans? Senators Will Be Stuck in Albany

ALBANY — On Saturday afternoon, from the peaks of the Adirondacks to the sands of Coney Island, New Yorkers will be celebrating the Fourth of July with picnics, softball games or a dip in the ocean.

But as the power struggle in the State Senate concludes its fourth week with no sign of resolution, 62 senators will be stuck in the Capitol, far from home, hearth and hot dogs, leaving lawmakers to frantically juggle schedules, appease aggrieved spouses and page through event guides, looking for ways to pass the time.

New York State Senator Antoine M. Thompson Announces Passage Of “Anti-Shackling Bill” "Legislation ends the inhumane practice shackling pregnant inmates in labor."

Albany, NY - NYS Senator Antoine M. Thompson (D-Parts of Erie & Niagara Counties) and the New York State Senate unanimously passed legislation that would prohibit the use of mechanical restraints including handcuffs and shackles, on any pregnant female prisoner who is about to give birth during transport from a correctional facility to a medical facility or other location for the purpose of delivering her child.

Thompson Hosts 2009 Memorial Day Ceremony & Reception "Paying tribute to those that have risked their lives to protect our country"

Buffalo, NY- Today, May 22, 2009, NYS Senator Antoine M. Thompson (D-Parts of Erie & Niagara Counties), hosted his 3rd Annual Memorial Day Ceremony and Recognition Reception.  The ceremony took place at 65 Court Street in Buffalo from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm.

This year’s ceremony honored several military veterans; Joseph Pirrone, Geraldine Ford, Honorable Judge Robert Russell, George Torres and Patrick Welch, Ph.D.  They were joined by their family and friends.

Niagara Falls, NY- NYS Senator Antoine M. Thompson (D-Parts of Erie & Niagara Counties), will sponsor a Memorial Weekend Carnival at the John Duke Senior Center parking lot May 21 – 25,  2009.

“The carnival is an enjoyable family oriented event and I encourage parents to participate with your children,” stated Senator Thompson.  “There will be officers and security guards on duty the entire time and any unacceptable behavior during the carnival will not be tolerated.”
