Last Friday Senator Perkins attended the wedding of his friends and constituents Lawrance Rodrigues and Frederick Bramfield who live in Harlem.  The well attended ceremony was held at Mr. Rodrigues' art gallery, Casa Frela. " This  is a great occasion for me," Senator Perkins told the couple, who had waited 25 years for the opportunity to marry.  "Sponsoring New York's Marriage Equality Bill, I hoped to give everyone the same benefits under the law. Lawrance and Fred's was the first LGBT wedding I've attended since our bill passed in June, but I'm looking forward to attending many, many more."

Senator Bill Perkins was presented with the Historic District Council's Friends in High Places Award Thursday evening May 12th. Taking place in the lovely flower-filled garden of the Church of the Pilgrims in Brooklyn Heights, the moving ceremony was only marred by particularly cool weather. However, the kind remarks made by HDC board member Kate Wood, who directs Landmark West, one of the most active preservation groups in Senator Perkins' district, could not have been warmer (remarks seen below).

On March 15, 2011 Senator Pekins joined with advocates in the State Capitol Building to fight for education.

On April 22, 2010, Senator Perkins, Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions held a public hearing to take a look at the growing charter school industry and to examine if the democratic vision of public education is being fulfilled .
