Senator Perkins & His Holiness the Dalai Lama

On May 6, 2009 His Holiness the Dalai Lama graced the New York State Senate with His presence.  Preceding the opening invocation His Holiness gave during session, numerous legislators presented His Holiness with sacred white Tibetan Buddhist scarves known as katas. As is customary with this ritual, His Holiness then returned the blessed kata to each legislator who presented a scarf to Him.

Today, State Senator Bill Perkins announced that the New York State Senate passed critical legislation (S.4110-A) that will provide an additional 13 weeks of extended benefits to nearly 120,000 currently unemployed New Yorkers.

Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Passes Senate Finance Committee

Program will bring unprecedented redevelopment to distressed areas; expected to pass the Senate next week.

The Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit (HRTC) (2960-A/Valesky) has passed in the Finance Committee and will be sent to the full Senate next week where it is expected to pass.

The current program introduced in 2006 offers tax credits for expenses associated with the rehabilitation of historic homes and depreciable properties.  The current program offers:

Atlantic Yards: Where are We Now, How Did We Get Here, and Where is this Project Going?

Subject:  The Atlantic Yards deal is a $4 billion project that Forest City Ratner proposes to build in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. Preliminary designs for the complex were drawn by world-famous architect Frank Gehry. In addition to a stadium, slated to be the future home of the New Jersey Nets, the project will also have office space, retail space, and many apartments, some for “low income” families. The Empire State Development Corporation is the primary state authority driving this project.
