Tick-tock. Thanks to Washington’s support for big banks, New York City has been a cocoon of prosperity compared to the rest of the nation over the last three years.

But banks can’t stay on the dole forever -- and the city’s done nothing in the 37 months since Lehman Bros. collapsed to prepare for a leaner Wall Street.

Without endless financial-industry profits, New York can’t afford to make good on the promises it’s made to workers and pick up the trash and keep criminals off streets.

A New York state senator and a coalition of women's rights groups and community leaders gathered Sunday to defend the alleged victim of former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn and demand the prosecution continue the sexual assault case."We are here to ask the District Attorney to do his job. We ask (DA) Vance to let the victim have her day in court," said New York Democratic Senator Bill Perkins at a news conference in Harlem.

A Harlem lawmaker is calling on the Manhattan district attorney to pursue sexual assault charges against Dominique Strauss-Kahn and let the alleged victim have her day in court.

State Senator Bill Perkins said District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. should not drop the case against the former head of the International Monetary Fund, since a dismissal could discourage future victims of sex attacks from coming forward.

Bill Perkins called on Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. to continue pursuing the sexual assault case against former head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Dominique Strauss-Kahn on behalf of a Sofitel hotel worker.Perkins issued a letter to Vance prior to the press conference held on Sunday in the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building in Harlem.“We believe that the district attorney has a responsibility to pursue this case, because apparently there is some evidence that merited him getting involved to begin with,” Perkins said.
