Public Hearing: The Second Avenue Subway Construction

       The Second Avenue Subway is being constructed to provide residents and commuters with additional access to mass transit. However, this endeavor has lead to numerous problems. Many businesses, residents, building owners, and commuters have been adversely affected by the construction which has eliminated parking, diminished sidewalks, and severely blocked access to local businesses. In addition, the scheduled dates of completion have been pushed back, and limited information has been disseminated to impacted businesses and residents.

Submission of a Petition for a Writ of Certiorari to the Court of Appeals of New York in order for the United States Supreme Court to allow admittance of a Brief of Amicus Curiae in support of the petitioners for the case of Tuck-It-Away Storage, Inc., et al. v. New York State Urban Development Corporation d/b/a/ Empire State Development Corporation.

The petition was prepared by Denise Outram, the Counsel of Record and Senior Counsel to the NYS Senate Committee on Corporations, Authorities, and Commissions, with the assistance of Amy Lavine, who provided pro bono work in collaboration with the Counsel of Record.

The government will pay 40% of your renovation costs…

It’s amazing how much we didn’t know when we bought our place. I was doing TONS of research, thought I knew a fair amount, but first I didn’t know we were buying into the roughest block in the neighborhood, and now I find out there are government programs that will pay up to 40% of our renovation costs. 40% makes a REAL difference and we had no clue when we went into contract… If we had picked the “wrong” building we would have gotten nothing....

Industry, labor, environmentalists, small business and public health advocates join Senator Bill Perkins at City Hall to praise legislation signed by Governor Paterson that will dramatically reduce the deadly pollution that comes from burning home heating oil. The legislation sponsored by Senator Perkins', S.1145-C, sharply reduces the amount of sulfur allowed in home heating oil from over 2,000 parts per million to just 15 parts per million.
