State bill revives pieces of DREAM Act for illegal immigrants - access to financial aid, work

A new bill in the state Legislature would make college life easier for undocumented immigrant students - giving them benefits like financial aid and driver's licenses.

Unlike the federal DREAM Act that died in the Senate last year, the Albany bill wouldn't provide a path to citizenship - but advocates say it would be life-changing for the more than 10,000 undocumented kids who graduate New York high schools each year.

Senator Perkins Passes Legislation to Protect Victims of Sexual Abuse

For many generations sexual assault was not treated as seriously as it should have been.  It used to be that sex assailants could attack someone up to three times before being put on the official sexual predators list.  If the assaults happened over a period longer than ten years, the attacker was still kept off of the predators list. But no more.

The New York rent regulation laws protect the security of over one million household, which contributes a lot protecting the economic vitality of the region.  To allow these protections to lapse, eliminating our major source of affordable housing would mean certain disaster.
