Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) announced today that his office will be making available Hurricane Preparedness Guides and will host a Hurricane Preparedness seminar.

The Hurricane Preparedness Guide is an updated version of the guide offered by Senator Foley while he was Supervisor of Brookhaven Town.

“Hurricane season inevitably brings with it questions about how to prepare and fears about what to do if a storm hits,” said Senator Foley. “This guide contains the information you and your loved ones need to ensure you have a plan in place prior to a storm and the necessary supplies on-hand for during and after a storm. I urge all residents, but particularly those along the south shore, to contact my office or visit my website to obtain a copy.”

Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) announced today that through his own advocacy, and that of his colleague, Senator William T. Stachowski, a bicameral agreement has been reached on the SUNY Empowerment legislation.

“Higher education is a lynchpin in so many ways and we must ensure that our students are receiving the best possible education,” said Senator Foley. “Allowing some of our state’s institutions of higher learning, including Stony Brook University, to have flexibility in setting tuition rates and entering into public-private partnerships will allow the schools to offer smaller class sizes and greater educational opportunities for our students.”

Senator Brian X. Foley was joined by education advocates to call on his fellow Long Island senators to join him in supporting an override of Governor Paterson’s veto of funding for education.

This law protects children and the environment by banning the use of harmful pesticides on school fields and playgrounds, as well as at daycare centers.

Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) and Assemblyman Fred Thiele (I – Sag Harbor) announced the introduction of major legislation that will significantly reduce the MTA payroll tax in Suffolk and Nassau as well as five other counties outside New York City that are currently served by the MTA.

Patchogue Village to receive $2.47 million in state money

Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) and Patchogue Village Mayor Paul Pontieri announced a major state grant for Patchogue Village aimed at boosting revitalization efforts in the Village. Patchogue Village has been awarded $2.47 million as part of the Restore New York Program which is helping uplift communities throughout the state.

Senator Foley and Brookhaven Highway Superintendent John Rouse work to deliver better roadways for Brookhaven residents

On the first day of paving season, Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) and Brookhaven Highway Superintendent John Rouse announced major funding for Brookhaven roadways. Foley – a former Town of Brookhaven Supervisor – has been able to secure $2.8 million to maintain and improve roads in Brookhaven.
