Senator Foley Asks: Does the State Owe YOU Money?

Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) announced today that there is hundreds of millions of dollars in unclaimed funds owed to New Yorkers by the state.

The Comptroller’s Office has more than 25 million outstanding accounts. These accounts are easily searchable through a phone call to the Comptroller’s Office or by visiting the website. The accounts are worth anywhere from a few dollars to several thousand dollars.

Senator Foley seeks to honor our ‘Everyday Heroes.'  These are the members of the community who have gone above and beyond to make a positive impact and leave a lasting mark on their surroundings. An ‘Everyday Hero’ could be the person who mows the lawn for the seniors in the community, tutors children in need at their library, delivers meals to the hungry or anyone else who selflessly makes a difference in their community.

Senator Foley Statement on the Passing of His Colleague, Senator Morahan

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my colleague, Senator Thomas Morahan, earlier this week.

Senator Morahan was a dedicated public servant who made it his mission to be a voice for a community that often had no voice - the mentally disabled.  He fought to make sure that they received the level of care and treatment they needed and deserved.  It is a legacy that will live on.

Senator Morahan was part of a group in Albany that believed in putting partisanship aside in order to accomplish what is best for the residents of New York.  It was truly an honor to have served with him in the New York State Senate over the last year and a half.

Senator Foley Increases Penalty for ATM Theft

Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) sponsored legislation (S5536-A), which passed the senate last week, that extends the crimes covered by grand larceny in the second and third degrees.

The legislation extends the charge of grand larceny in the third degree to include stealing an automated teller machine (ATM) or the contents of such a machine. It also extends the charge of grand larceny in the second degree to include stealing an ATM or its contents when the suspect has committed grand larceny in the third degree within the previous 5 years.

Senator Foley Encourages Age-Integrated Communities

Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) sponsored legislation (S4981), which passed the senate last week, that would encourage age-integrated communities.

The legislation creates model zoning and planning guidelines that foster age-integrated communities. This will allow senior citizens to live in units in areas zoned for single family residences and recommends age-integrated housing development or redevelopment demonstration projects in urban, suburban and rural areas of New York.
