Senator Foley Protects Victims of Domestic Violence

Legislation sponsored by Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) aimed at protecting the rights and security of victims of domestic violence has been signed into law by Governor Paterson.

The new law allows victims of domestic violence to request a court order that requires the Board of Elections to keep their registration records confidential. This means that victims will be afforded an added layer of protection in keeping their new address out of the hands of their abusers.

Senator Foley Marks Memorial Day

Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) released the following statement to commemorate Memorial Day:

“Vietnam Veteran Max Cleland wrote that the curse of the soldier is that he never forgets. Today is a day when all of us are called to join with them to pay tribute to our fallen to ensure that we as a country never forget.

Sam Stahlman, who served in the Army Infantry during World War Two, is Senator Brian X. Foley’s nominee for the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame. Sam, who enlisted in the Army at 17 years of age, fought in the European Theatre.

Senator Foley Reduces Fiscal Burden on Vocational Education and Extension Boards

Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) announced the passage of legislation that would change the way in which state aid overpayments to county vocational education and extension boards (CVEEB) are recovered.

The legislation does away with the current practice of requiring the boards to return overpayments but cutting a check to the state in one lump sum, which places a great deal of fiscal strain on the boards. The new practice would allow boards to repay the state through reductions in future state aid payments, amortized over three years.
