On Monday, July 12, 2010, Senator Brian X. Foley will co-sponsor a community blood drive and host a grand opening of his Central Islip office.
The blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the grand opening will take place between 4-6 p.m. Both events will be held at Courthouse Corporate Center, located at 320 Carleton Avenue in Central Islip.
All blood donors will receive two free Mets tickets compliments of Long Island Blood Services.
Throughout the day there will be food from Carrabbas Italian Grill, Comalapa and Stuff-a-Bagel.

On June 28th the senate and the assembly passed a budget bill that included $600 million in restoration of funding for New York's schools. Long Island was to recieve $83 million in restored funding, and schools within the 3rd Senate District were to receive the highest restoration amount of any other senate district in the state. The governor vetoed this funding restoration the same night it passed. This means that schools will not have the additional money the legislature was trying to provide to them to help offset property tax increases.
Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) sponsored legislation (S5536-A), which passed the senate last week, that extends the crimes covered by grand larceny in the second and third degrees.
The legislation extends the charge of grand larceny in the third degree to include stealing an automated teller machine (ATM) or the contents of such a machine. It also extends the charge of grand larceny in the second degree to include stealing an ATM or its contents when the suspect has committed grand larceny in the third degree within the previous 5 years.
Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) sponsored legislation (S4981), which passed the senate last week, that would encourage age-integrated communities.
The legislation creates model zoning and planning guidelines that foster age-integrated communities. This will allow senior citizens to live in units in areas zoned for single family residences and recommends age-integrated housing development or redevelopment demonstration projects in urban, suburban and rural areas of New York.
Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) passed six pieces of legislation through the senate today. The legislation touched on the topics of banking, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), building codes, and education.

Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) announced today that a legislative package has passed the senate which will expand benefits available to both veterans and service members serving on active duty. The legislative package, which consisted of eleven bills, covers the areas of health and well-being, housing assistance, matrimonial law, tax relief, voting protection and educational opportunity.
