SENATE PASSES MARCELLINO’S PET PROTECTION BILL

Measure Makes the Theft of Dogs or Cats A Felony

The New York State Senate today passed a bill to help prevent the theft of pets by increasing the penalties for committing the crime. The bill, (S.946), sponsored by Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R, Syosset), would make stealing a licensed dog or cat a felony and takes into account the monetary and emotional value of a pet.

I am proud to say that the State Legislature and the Governor have reached an agreement on the State Budget. This agreement continues to protect taxpayers and help the private sector create jobs. It  closes a multi-billion dollar deficit with no new taxes, fees or gimmicks and limits spending growth to 2% or below for the second year in a row.

SENATE PASSES MEASURES TO REDUCE PESTICIDE WASTE

Bills Would Help Lessen Use of Some Pesticides and Prevent Unnecessary Disposal

 The New York State Senate today passed two bills that would reduce the amount of pesticides that are unnecessarily released into the environment. The bills, sponsored by Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R, Syosset) and Senator Mark Grisanti (R, North Buffalo), have environmental and economic benefits by reducing the amount of pesticides needing to be applied or disposed of as hazardous waste.

SENATE PASSES BILL TO INCREASE PENALTIES FOR STALKING


The New York State Senate today passed a bill, sponsored by Senator Carl L. Marcellino, that would increase the penalties for stalking (S. 924A). An estimated 3.4 million people are victims of stalking in the United States each year.

"The obsessive nature of stalkers is unimaginable until you have suffered as the target of their endless pursuit,” said Senator Marcellino. “Stalking is a serious and potentially life-threatening crime. It changes the lives of the people who are victimized forever. This heinous behavior often proves lethal and the punishment must fit the crime.”

TAX CUTS AND PROPERTY TAX CAP HIGHLIGHT NEW JANUARY 1st LAWS

Middle class tax cuts that will reduce tax rates for millions of hardworking taxpayers and the two-percent property tax cap highlight new state laws that will go into effect on January 1, 2012.

The recently enacted tax cuts will reduce tax rates on middle class taxpayers to their lowest levels in more than 50 years (Chapter 55, L.2011). About 4.4 million middle class taxpayers will receive a total of  $690 million in personal income tax relief.

Senator Marcellino Joins Girl Scouts "Holiday Magic" Event

State Senator Carl Marcellino joined members of Service Unit #13 of the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County, Junior Troop 3696 and Cadet Troop 3838 at their “Holiday Magic” event on Saturday 03 December, 2011 at the Huntington Elks Lodge on Main Street, to help prepare Christmas and Hanukkah packages for the Veterans at the Northport Veterans Hospital as well as the Family Service League of Huntington, at which gifts were wrapped, marked and sent on their way after the girls donated two ½ boxes of toys for the U.S. Marine Corps ‘Toys for Tots’ program in which the Huntington Elks are dedicated supporters.
