CHARLES VARESE MEMORIAL HIGHWAY

Senator Carl L. Marcellino today attended the unveiling of the road sign in memory of Charles “Chuck” Varese on Route 25A in Centerport.  

Chuck was killed when a driver using drugs plowed into him on Route 25A. That same strip of road was renamed in his honor, something family members hope will serve as a warning to others on the dangers of impaired driving.

MARCELLINO CALLS ON PRESIDENT TO EXPAND DISASTER ASSISTANCE FOR SUFFOLK COUNTY - FEDERAL DISASTER AID APPROVED FOR NASSAU

Senator Carl L. Marcellino today announced that Federal disaster assistance has been expanded to include homeowners, renters and small businesses in Nassau County as a result of damages incurred by Hurricane Irene.

He called on President Obama and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to expand federal disaster assistance to Suffolk County so home and business owners can also apply for federal assistance.

Please join Senator Carl L. Marcellino September 10th at 10 am as we come together as a community for a moment of reflection and remembrance and to officially commemorate the 10th Anniversary of September 11th. The program will include a ceremony at the Western Waterfront 9/11 Memorial, West End Avenue, Oyster Bay and the dedication and blessing of a section of a beam from the World Trade Center Twin Towers obtained by the Atlantic Steamer Fire Department. SENATE PASSES LEGISLATION TO STRENGTHEN LAW ON TEXT MESSAGING WHILE DRIVING

 

New Law Would Elevate Text Messaging While Driving Violation to a Primary Offense Assembly Also Expected To Act Today

The New York State Senate today passed a bill (S.5643) that will make it easier for law enforcement to crack down on texting-while-driving offenses and prevent tragic accidents caused by drivers distracted by texting. The bill represents an agreement with the State Assembly which is also expected to act on the legislation today.

The bill is sponsored by Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R-Syosset), Senator Jim Alesi (R-C-I, Perinton), and Senator Joseph Robach (R-C-I, Rochester).

Now it is 2 points for Driving While on the Phone

Everyone knows that driving with a handheld cell phone is illegal in New York. What you may not know is starting today, Wednesday, February 16th drivers who are ticketed for driving while talking on their handheld cell phones will face 2 points on their license, in addition to the $100 fine.
