MARCELLINO APLAUDS US DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE REJECTION OF BROADWATER

Senator Carl L. Marcellino today applauded the US Department of Commerce decision to turn down the Broadwater project, a proposed floating liquefied natural gas barge in Long Island Sound.

"It is truly significant to have the US Department of Commerce to independently concur that Broadwater is wrong for Long Island Sound. If we are to protect the Sound's ecology and economic significance than the only reasonable position is to reject Broadwater and find an alternative," said Senator Marcellino.

Senator Marcellino Presents State’s Highest Military Honor To WWII Vet

Senator Carl L. Marcellino today presented the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross, the State’s highest Military honor to WWII Veteran Louis John Fox, 82, of Huntington Station. As an Aviation Machinist Mate in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Fox was part of reconnaissance missions from Tinian Island to Japan. The Enola Gay, which carried the atomic bomb to Hiroshima, started its long and historic flight on August 6, 1945 from Tinian Island.

Marcellino And Senate Delegation Fund Medicaid Fraud Unit In Nassau District Attorney’s Office

State Senators Carl L. Marcellino, Dean G. Skelos, Kemp Hannon and Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. today joined Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen M. Rice to announce $750,000 in state funding for the creation of a Medicaid Fraud Unit in Nassau County. "Medicaid fraud places an undue financial burden on taxpayers and it takes funds away from those that need it most. This funding demonstrates that the Senate will not tolerate the abuse of public funds intended to help the most vulnerable members of our society," said Senator Carl L.

Senator Marcellino Announces The Passage Of "Timothy’s Law" To Provide Mental Health Parity

 

Senator Carl L. Marcellino announced today the passage of "Timothy’s Law," to provide parity in insurance coverage for mental illnesses. The legislation will require insurance companies to cover most mental illnesses and will require coverage for a broad range of mental illnesses and conditions specifically related to children. The bill reflects an agreement with the State Assembly that was reached at the end of the regular legislative session.

Senator Marcellino’s Wetlands Bill Moved Out Of Committee

 

State Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R, Syosset), Chairman of the Environmental Conservation Committee, today announced that the freshwater wetlands bill was moved out of the Environmental Conservation Committee. Senate Bill 2081 will strengthen New York State’s ability to protect this natural resource. The Marcellino bill only effects freshwater wetlands. Areas designated as tidal wetlands would not fall under this legislation.

State Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R, Syosset) recently announced that his legislation which would outlaw "on-line" hunting in New York State was signed into law by Governor Pataki. On-line hunting allows individuals to use the Internet to fire real weapons at animals in remote locations.

Senator Marcellino And Delegation Calls For Long Island’s Fair Share Of School Aid

The eight majority Senators from Long Island have jointly called on the state to make sure that Long Island school districts get their fair share of state funding in the 2008-2009 budget. In a letter to State Education Commissioner Richard P. Mills and Chancellor Robert M. Bennett, the delegation expresses its disappointment with the 2008-09 Regents State Aid proposal.

Senator Marcellino’s School Audit Legislation Passes Senate

Legislation sponsored by Senator Carl Marcellino (R, Syosset), that directs the New York State Comptroller to conduct fiscal audits of each school district, BOCES and charter schools in the state every five years passes the Senate.

This legislation is related to an appropriation of $2.9 million included the 2005-06 state budget to help additional school district audits by the Comptroller.

Marcellino’s Legislation To Outlaw ‘live -shot’ Internet Hunting Passes Senate

 

Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R- Syosset) today announced that his legeslation to prohibit the practice of ‘hunting by remote control' via the Internet (S.2822A) has passed the Senate.

"Not only does this activity pose potential safety problems, but hunting via the Internet takes the honor and the sport out of hunting and turns it into the equivalent of an online video game. New York State cannot allow this behavior to occur and this bill would prohibit the creation of such web sites and shooting facilities," said Senator Marcellino.
