Everyone knows that driving with a handheld cell phone is illegal in New York. What you may not know is starting today, Wednesday, February 16th drivers who are ticketed for driving while talking on their handheld cell phones will face 2 points on their license, in addition to the $100 fine.

State Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R-Syosset) announced today that he has been appointed chairman of the Senate Committee on Investigations and Government Operations. The Committee on Investigations and Government Operations serves as the Senate’s primary legislative and governmental oversight committee and, among other responsibilities, is specifically charged with reviewing New York’s tax and regulatory policies, economic development strategies, and many government reform initiatives.
Governor Andrew Cuomo’s first State of the State message echoed the themes that I have been talking about for the last two years. Cutting spending, cutting taxes, lowering property taxes, reducing the size of government and helping businesses create new private sector jobs must be the priorities. If we can accomplish these goals, we will put New York on a path of financial recovery and restore the public’s faith in our State government.
The MTA will be holding hearings on their proposed fare hikes.
