NYS grants $6 million to "first in the world" oxy-coal project

Governor David A. Paterson today visited Chautauqua County in Western New York to announce State support for an advanced coal power plant in Jamestown. Advanced coal technology could represent the next major step in addressing global climate change while also helping to diversify the state’s energy supply and create “clean-tech” jobs Upstate.

Senator Young Secures $750,000 In State Funding For Rt. 19 Project

SCIO - Faced with a threat to the motoring public and local communities along Route 19, Senator Catharine Young has secured a $750,000 state grant for the Genesee River Hazard Mitigation Project. The potential loss of life, property and infrastructure and communities along Route 19 in Belfast and Amity prompted Senator Young’s effort to ensure the grant was included in this year’s state budget as it was needed to serve as the match for the federal FEMA grant.

Senator Young Announces 20,000 In Funding For Jamestown Audubon Center And Sanctuary

The Jamestown Audubon Center and Sanctuary will be receiving funds to repair the handicapped-accessible trails and overlook platform thanks to a $20,000 grant obtained by State Senator Catharine Young (R,I,C- Olean).

The Audubon Center and Sanctuary is comprised of five miles of trails within its 600 acres. Several organizations such as ASPIRE and The Resource Center take advantage of the grounds which accomodates people with disabilities.

Sgt. Jason Denfrund Memorial Dedicated

A monument dedicated to the memory of fallen soldier Army Sgt. Jason C. Denfrund and all service men and women from the village of Cattaraugus was unveiled Saturday at the Liberty Park Cemetery. A $6,000 state grant for the memorial was secured by Senator Catharine Young.

Senator Young Bill To Protect Domestic Violence Victims Passes Senate

A bill that would would provide victims of domestic violence greater protection by allowing them to testify in court via closed-circuit television, sponsored by State Senator Catharine Young (R,I,C - Olean), has passed the State Senate."Violent abusers can terrify and intimidate their victims during court proceedings," said Senator Young. "To break the cycle of abuse, victims should be in a non-threatening environment when giving testimony. They shouldn’t be stared down by someone who has physically and emotionally tortured them.

Senator Young Announces "dar" Grant

State Senator Catharine Young (R,I,C - Olean) today announced that has she secured a $23,000 grant for the local Jamestown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). The grant will be used for foundation and porch repairs at the Partridge/Sheldon House in Jamestown. The grant was also matched by the Environmental Protection Fund.

The Porter Sheldon Mansion at 70 Prospect Street in Jamestown, was home to Porter Sheldon who served in the U.S.

Senator Young Announces $15,500 In Funding For Cattaraugus County Agricultural Society

People with physical challenges will be able to access the Cattaraugus County Fairground grandstand easier, thanks to a $15,500 grant obtained by State Senator Catharine Young (R,I,C - Olean). The funding will provide for purchase and installation of a vertical platform lift on the grandstand for people with physical disabilities. A handicapped-accessible area located in front of the grandstand was becoming increasingly unsafe due to debris flying through the fence at some of the races, and visibility in this location was obstructed by a concrete barrier.

Young Legislation Signed Into Law

State Senator Catharine Young (R,I,C - Olean) today announced a bill to protect consumers from the dumping of substandard agricultural products in New York State has been signed into law by Governor Spitzer.

The legislation prevents out-of-state food distributors from dumping of any cull or waste pile containing substandard product from outside the state that could contaminate food and require such cull or waste pile to be disposed of in an appropriate manner.
