SENATOR YOUNG RECOGNIZES CHAUTAUQUA LAKE CENTRAL SCHOOL THUNDERBIRDS FOOTBALL TEAM

On May 17, Senator Cathy Young presented a resolution to the Chautauqua Lake Central School Thunderbirds Football Team, recognizing the team for capturing Chautauqua Lake’s first ever Section VI Class DD Championship on November 3, 2011. The team defeated the Clymer Central School Pirates 14-0 at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park.

Senator Cathy Young took part in the Livingston County Office of the Aging’s 32nd Annual Seniorama on May 19, 2012 to acknowledge the lifetime contributions of seniors throughout the county. Senator Young congratulated New York State Citizens of the Year (l-r) Alice Acomb, Marilyn Gilbert, Mary Kay Hammond, and Ethel Miller during the. Over the last 32 years, the four honorees collectively volunteered 10,000 hours to For the Health of It, Noyes Memorial Hospital’s health screening program.

Paw Impressions Animal Rescue Celebrates Grand Opening in May

State Allocates $1 Million for East State Street Reconstruction in Olean, NY

Senator Cathy Young (R,C,I – Olean) spoke to WIVB reporters during a groundbreaking ceremony for the East State Street Reconstruction project in Olean, NY. The construction is funded through $1 million allocated by the State. Senator Young and Assemblyman Joseph Giglio strongly supported the project, which will fix significant safety issues, help economic development for businesses on the east side of Olean, and east travel for the public. The City of Olean is also investing $1.5 million toward the endeavor.

ALBANY – WWII veteran John J. Maroon has one piece of advice for students in Western New York – never give up.In honor of his dedicated service, Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I – Olean) named Private First Class John J. Maroon an inductee to the 2012 New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame.Private Maroon served in the U.S. Army, participated in combat operations in Italy during 1944 and spent time as a Prisoner of War (POW). He often shares those experiences with school children.

Main Street in Wellsville, Senator Cathy Young (R,C,I – Olean), spent time with children who are cared for with those principles in mind. Under the direction of Mrs. Carol English and her staff, children are provided with a safe, nurturing while they receive a basic education using activities that will help them grow spiritually, socially, physically, and emotionally. During her visit, Senator Young spoke with staff about the daycare center, and how she can be helpful in supporting quality daycare services.

Senator Catharine Young Cuts the Ribbon at the Grand Opening of the Limestone American Legion

     When it began, the American Legion consisted of a small group of weary World War I veterans. Now, it is one of the largest, most influential non-profit groups in the United States with over 2.4 million members and 14,000 posts worldwide.     On Saturday, April 14, Senator Cathy Young (R,C,I – Olean) cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the Limestone American Legion Post, 941 N. Main Street, with Post Commander David Barger (right) and Vice Commander Jim Cochran, who worked hard to upgrade the Post.     Senator Young is an auxiliary member of the Hinsdale American Legion Post and works hard to address veterans’ needs.

Jamestown Native Celebrates Her 100th Birthday with Senator Cathy Young

Senator Cathy Young presented Emogene Swanson with a Senate Proclamation honoring her 100th birthday during WJTN FM's Saturday Breakfast Party at Friendly's in Jamestown on Saturday April 7th. Born on April 10, 1912, in Jamestown, Emogene Swanson is a daughter of Sophie and Albin Frankson; she was raised with her four brothers and one sister and later married Alvin Swanson. The couple was married for 67 years.

Also celebrating birthdays were Eleanor Cowing, who turned 95 years old, and Helen Cronk and Kermit Johnson, who both turned 80.

On a side note, the Saturday Breakfast Party is one of the longest running, live audience participation programs in the country.  The show was started in 1946 and is currently hosted by Dennis Webster.

WWII Veteran Honored Posthumously

At the American Legion Post in Brocton on Friday, February 24, Senator Cathy Young (R,C,I - 57th District) presented Jean and Steve Milliman (right) and John Morehouse (left) with medals honoring their father Gunner's Mate, Second Class Lewis Morehouse for his service with the United States Navy during WWII. Petty Officer Morehouse's great-grandson, Brody Rowan (center) also attended the event. Petty Officer Morehouse received all his honors posthumously, including the World War II Victory Medal, a Combat Action Ribbon, an Honorable Service Lapel Pin, and the U.S. Navy Honorable Discharge Lapel Pin

Fifty years after U.S. Air Force Retired Second Class Airman Karl Grantier retired from the military, he received a medal and certificate recognizing his service. During a meeting at the Angelica American Legion on Thursday, February 16, 2012, Senator Cathy Young presented Airman Grantier with the Good Conduct Medal and a Cold War Recognition Certificate.
