Senator Young Cuts Ribbon for New Prospect St. Bridge in Cuba

Senator Cathy Young helped to officially open the Prospect Street Bridge in Cuba at a recent ribbon cutting ceremony. The foot bridge, which runs over Norfolk-Southern Railroad, is part of the Genesee Valley Greenway project, a 90-mile trail of open space from Rochester to Cuba. Senator Young Joins in Ribbon Cutting for New 'Center Street Bridge'

Senator Catharine Young is joined by officials from the Seneca Nation and other local and state representatives at a recent ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony to mark the grand re-opening of the replaced bridge at Center Street and Front Avenue in Salamanca. The previously unnamed bridge, referred to as the “Center Street Bridge” was newly named after the famed Seneca statesman Chief Cornplanter.The new bridge includes areas for pedestrians, bicyclists and large vehicles.

Senator Young Given Tour of Lutheran Social Services New 'Smartbuilding'

Sen. Young Honors Long Time Library Director

Long time director of the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System and the James Prendergast Library Association, Catherine Way, was presented a Senate Proclamation by Senator Catharine Young at a recent retirement party that honored Ms. Way for her 38 years of dedicated service to both organizations.

Catherine’s library career began when she was hired in 1973 as a children’s librarian at Prendergast Library. After three years in that position, she was named general services librarian for one year before serving as assistant director for Prendergast Library from 1976 to 1998, assistant director of both Prendergast Library and the Library System from 1998 until 2003; and director of both organizations for the past eight years.

Senator Young kicks off the seventh annual Cuba Garlic Festival


Senator Young helped kick off the opening ceremonies for the seventh annual Cuba Garlic Festival with help from Curt Crandall (far right), Chairman of the Allegany Board of Legislators. Bill and JoAnn Farrell (both in costume holding staffs), who have lived in Cuba for more than 40 years, were named the King & Queen to preside over this year's festival. Gabby Dutton and Joe Hughes also donned garlic costumes to show their support for the spirit of the festival. The two day festival featured all things garlic with vendors and visitors from all over the region and beyond.

Honoring our Military Servicemen on the 4th!

While attending the Fourth of July Bicentennial Parade In Mayville yesterday, Senator Catharine Young was presented a U.S. flag that was recently flown over the U.S. Capitol by Staff Sergeant Joseph C. Gullo, III of Brocton for her dedicated service to veterans. Staff Sergeant Gullo was the first person from Chautauqua County to be s...ent overseas after the 9/11 attacks. During is military career, he served in multiple tours in Afghanistan and Iraq while with the 82nd Airborne Division and the 10th Mountain Division. He has also served with the Patriot Guard Riders in both New York and Pennsylvania. He is a recipient of the Combat Action Badge.Also pictured is Staff Sgt.

Senator Young recognizes the Randolph Central School Cardinal's Volleyball team for State Championship

 

Senator Young recognized the Randolph Central School Cardinal's Volleyball team achievement as the 2010 New York State Public High School Athletic Association's Class D Champions by presenting them with a New York State Legislative Resolution. This was the team's third State title in seven years, winning in 2004 and 2005. Additionally, the team were the runners-up in 2007.

SEN. YOUNG MEETS WITH LOCAL RED CROSS CHAPTERS IN ALBANY

Representatives from the American Red Cross’s Southwestern NY Chapter,  which serves Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties, and the Clara Barton Chapter # 1, which serves Livingston County, were in Albany recently to join other chapters from across the state for the New York State’s Red Cross annual Lobby Day.

Senator Catharine Young introduced Governor Andrew Cuomo at his follow-up presentation of his State of the State Address

Senator Catharine Young introduced Governor Andrew Cuomo at his follow-up presentation of his State of the State Address to hundreds in attendance at the Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown.  Senator Young said that her Senate Conference is enthusiastic to partner with the Governor to revive the economy, grow private sector jobs and relieve the suffocating tax burden, especially property taxes.

SEN. YOUNG ATTENDS DEDICATION OFNEW FRIENDSHIP CENTRAL SCHOOL RENOVATIONS

Many happy and excited community members, students, parents, and school personnel celebrated the official dedication of the Friendship Central School’s beautiful new classroom facilities and refurbished gymnasium. A sportsmanship statue was unveiled as part of the ceremonies. Sportsmanship essay contest winner Caylen Bednow (pictured right) earned the honor of being the model for the bronze figure that will be permanently displayed at the school. The statue was created by renowned artist David Poulin (pictured center). Mr. Poulin cast the bronze from a clay figure that was created by students under his supervion.

HERO REMEMBERED

It is with great sadness to report that World War II hero Kenneth Johnson (in photo on right) has passed away as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  Our sincere sympathies go out to the Johnson family and we pray for the speedy recovery of his great grandson.  Recently we were able to honor Kenneth and below is a link to an article about that special day.

Members of Daniel Goho Post 87 in Dansville Honored

The Daniel Goho Post 87 of the American Legion in Dansville recently honored its long serving members. Among those honored for 65 years of continuous service were, pictured here with Senator Young) (l-r): William Kelly, Roy Werth, Senator Young, Robert Hemmer, and Paul Gerling. Also recognized for their 65 years of service but unable to attend were, Kenneth Bennett, George Bacon, Robert Drum, Demerle Johnson, and Paul MacDonald. Sincere gratitude to all veterans for their service to our country. Also, special thanks to Legion Commander Dennis Mahus and Auxilliary President Ann Mahus for their leadership.
