Senator Young's Reaction to Governor Cuomo's 2014-15 State Budget Proposal

For Release: Immediate, January 21, 2014

Jobs and economic opportunities are paramount, and the Governor’s focus on making New York a more affordable place to live and work is right on target.  Many of his proposals to make our state’s economy more competitive mirror the Senate’s initiatives.  Manufacturing jobs especially drive the Upstate economy, and reducing manufacturing and small business taxes and eliminating utility taxes on employers and residential consumers are key.

Property tax relief continues to be a top concern of my constituents, and the Governor spoke extensively about reducing the suffocating property tax burden, which is something I fully support.  I look forward to fully analyzing the specifics of his proposals through upcoming budget hearings.

Senator Young Discusses Lake Shore Hospital on “Your Voice”

Senator Young recently appeared on the Senate TV program “Your Voice” to discuss her efforts to save Lake Shore Hospital, protect access to quality community healthcare, and restore our state’s economy.

Last month, more than 1,200 people came out to the Rally to Save Lake Shore and raise their voices in support of keeping the hospital open.  They were heard all the way to Albany as we delivered a strong, unified message in support of protecting emergency care, ensuring access to vital health services, and preserving the hundreds of jobs provided by Lake Shore.

Senator Young Discusses Agriculture on “Your Voice”

Senator Young recently appeared on the Senate TV program “Your Voice” to discuss the huge importance of agriculture to our region and state.

Our farms and agriculture industry are the backbone of our economy, contributing more than $5.4 billion to our state every year, and few work harder or face greater challenges than our dedicated farmers.

Since her election to the State Assembly in 1998, and the State Senate in 2005, supporting and promoting agriculture has always been among Senator Young’s highest priorities. The dairy and crop industries, including maple, apple, and wine and grapes, among others, are all crucial to the economy and health of our state.

Senator Young Applauds Tax Cuts, Jobs and Economic Development in State Budget

For Release: Immediate, March 31, 2014

ALBANY - Tax cuts to help overburdened property taxpayers, save jobs and grow the economy are some of the many highlights of the 2014-15 state budget, according to Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I - 57th District).

“By working together, we have crafted an on-time budget that includes some of the most effective tax relief progress we have seen in quite awhile. It assists seniors and hardworking, middle class families with their suffocating property tax bills. It also makes New York a more competitive business environment for manufacturers, small businesses and farmers,” Senator Young said.

“Making our state a more affordable place to live and work is essential to reversing the economic damage that was done to our state in 2009-10, when downstate controlled all of state government and they hiked 126 taxes by over $14 billion. We still are recovering from those irresponsible policies. The Senate coalition is working hard to turn things around by creating opportunities and empowering all New Yorkers,” Senator Young said.
