Senator Young meets with members of the Genesee Valley Conservancy

Senator Young recently met with members of the Genesee Valley Conservancy. They thanked her for her support and gave the Senator an update on their efforts. Currently, the Conservancy has approximately 14,000 acres protected through a number of easements and preserves. The open spaces that they protect help keep our area beautiful for all outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers.

Senator Young to Host Electronics Recycling Event in Falconer

Residents can get rid of old, unwanted electronics free of charge

OLEAN – Senator Catharine Young announced that she has teamed up with Sunnking and SKF Aeroengine to offer a free electronics recycling event for area residents. The event will take place on Saturday, June 22 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at SKF Aeroengine, One Maroco Road, Falconer.

Senator Young Announces State Funding for Chautauqua Lake Cleanup Efforts

ALBANY – Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I-Olean) announced today that she has secured $100,000 to battle invasive species in Chautauqua Lake.

Following the $100,000 of funding that Senator Young secured for the Chautauqua Lake Association (CLA) last year, this year’s additional $100,000 grant will help support the CLA’s aquatic weed control initiatives.

“Chautauqua Lake is an economic engine that brings millions of tourism dollars that grow our small businesses and enhance our tax base. The recreational benefits provided by the lake enhance our quality of life, so having a healthy and vibrant lake is very important to our community,” she said.

            OLEAN – Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I-Olean) announced that she has teamed up with e-recycler Sunnking, Time Warner Cable, and student volunteers from the Frewsburg High School Science Squad in offering a free e-recycling event for area residents. The event will take place on Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Frewsburg High School, 26 Institute Street, Frewsburg.

Senator Young Announces State Funding for Dredging of Chautauqua County Harbors and Waterways

For Release: Immediate, May 23, 2014

$300,000 of State Funding for Urgent Dredging Projects

ALBANY – Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I-Olean) announced today that critically-needed dredging projects in Chautauqua County will be able to go forward thanks to $300,000 she has secured.

“With the county’s harbors and waterways in tremendous need of dredging right now, this grant is great news for taxpayers and residents. The current condition of our harbors and waterways has contributed to damaging flooding and related problems. This funding lifts a significant burden from local taxpayers, who will not have to bear the brunt of the costs yet will still be able to see these important projects completed.

Senate Passes Legislation Supporting Soil and Water Conservation Districts

Bills include support for educational initiatives, watershed projects, and programs to combat invasive species

ALBANY – Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) throughout New York are on the front lines of protecting the State’s natural resources, helping landowners, preventing floods, fighting the spread of invasive species, and educating the public.

Three bills sponsored and passed by Senator Catharine Young (R, I, C—Olean), Chair of the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources, provide SWCDs with additional tools they need to accomplish their ambitious mission. The first two of these bills also were passed by the Assembly and are awaiting the Governor’s signature into law.
