Bountiful Apples

Celebrate fall by visiting New York orchards and farms 

ALBANY — With an especially plentiful crop this year, families and individuals in New York are celebrating autumn by enjoying the crisp bite of the state fruit – the apple.

“Last year’s fruit crops, including apples, were devastated by a combination of unseasonably warm spring weather that was followed by freezing temperatures,” said Senator Catharine Young (R, I, C—Olean), chair of the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources. “After facing such a difficult year in 2012, this year’s harvest demonstrates the resilience of our apple growers throughout the state.”

Senator Young to Hold Rally to Save Lake Shore Hospital

Urging the Community to Attend in Force

IRVING - Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I-57th Senate District) announced today that she is organizing a rally to save Lake Shore Hospital at Silver Creek High School on Saturday, January 11 at 12:30 p.m.

The public is strongly urged to come to show their support, she said.

Senator Young said that Assemblymen Andrew Goodell and Joseph Giglio are co-hosting the event. Senator Mark Grisanti, Assemblyman David DiPietro, Congressman Tom Reed, Chautauqua County Executive Vince Horrigan, and County Legislator George Borrello also will take part. The Seneca Nation of Indians, whose Cattaraugus Territory is adjacent to Lake Shore Hospital, will have a large presence. Medical personnel, emergency first responders, employees, labor and the community at large are expected to be out in force.

Federal Farm Bill Will Provide Greater Stability for New York Farmers

ALBANY— With farms serving as the foundation of our nation’s food supply, it is encouraging to see progress being made toward the passage of a long awaited federal Farm Bill.

Senator Young Discusses Lake Shore Hospital on “Your Voice”

Senator Young recently appeared on the Senate TV program “Your Voice” to discuss her efforts to save Lake Shore Hospital, protect access to quality community healthcare, and restore our state’s economy.

Last month, more than 1,200 people came out to the Rally to Save Lake Shore and raise their voices in support of keeping the hospital open.  They were heard all the way to Albany as we delivered a strong, unified message in support of protecting emergency care, ensuring access to vital health services, and preserving the hundreds of jobs provided by Lake Shore.

Critical Access Hospitals provide vital healthcare for rural communities

ALBANY – For the second year in a row, Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I-Olean), Chair of the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources, announced that she successfully secured funding crucial to the continued operation of New York’s Critical Access Hospitals.

“These facilities serve as a healthcare lifeline for many rural communities. The people they serve are reliant on the healthcare services they provide,” said Senator Young.
