Senate Passes Bill to Increase Access to Dentists in Underserved Communities

Measure would make dentists eligible for “Doctors Across New York”

ALBANY - Untreated oral diseases can lead to a number of health problems, some of them even life threatening, yet a severe shortage of dentists in underserved areas has left many New Yorkers without access to care, according to Senator Catharine Young (R,C,Ind-Olean), sponsor of “Dentists Across New York” which passed the state Senate yesterday.

The legislation (S.2190) would alleviate the issue by expanding the “Doctors Across New York” program and enabling dentists to be recruited and receive incentives to work in communities with dentist shortfalls.

ALBANY – For the second year in a row, Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I-Olean), Chair of the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources, announced that she successfully secured funding crucial to the continued operation of New York’s Critical Access Hospitals.

“These facilities serve as a healthcare lifeline for many rural communities. The people they serve are reliant on the healthcare services they provide,” said Senator Young.

Cuba Memorial Hospital Receives $3.3 Million in Support from New York State

Funding follows designation as a Critical Access Hospital

CUBA- Senator Catharine M. Young (R,I,C- Olean) announced great news for the region following Cuba Memorial Hospital’s completion of the hospital’s final mortgage payment. The mortgage payment comes as a result of the hospital receiving state support of just over $3.3 million under its designation as a Critical Access Hospital.

The CARE Act ensures caregivers are involved in and educated about their loved one’s medical needs

 

ALBANY – With more and more Americans requiring long term care each year, Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I – Olean) and her Senate colleagues this week moved to ensure family caregivers receive consultation in the treatment of a loved one, as well as training to assist with post-release care tasks.

 

The CARE Act is an important step toward improving the quality of care for patients when they are released from the hospital, and will help cut down on the estimated $17 billion in Medicare funds spent each year nationally on hospital readmissions.

Telehealth Services To Expand To Include Dental Care

Legislation Sponsored by Senator Young Will Boost Patients Access to Needed Dental Services

 

ALBANY – New Yorkers, especially those who live in rural communities, will soon have greater access to medical care, especially specialists who focus on unique diseases, and faster, more convenient treatment options. Under the new legislation, authored by Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I – Olean), telehealth services, which were opened earlier this year in New York, will now be expanded to include dental healthcare professionals.
