Shovels went into the ground Tuesday afternoon in a project county officials say they are eager to see move forward.
Legislators, Industrial Development Agency (IDA) representatives, department heads, project officials and bank representatives gathered in the rain to watch the ceremonial groundbreaking. Now that that’s been done, things are expected to progress fairly quickly.
RIPLEY — On the first anniversary of the dedication of the Ripley Veterans’ Roll of Honor Monument, Nov. 11, more than 70 new veterans’ names were added to the Roll. The ceremony drew approximately 200 spectators, including New York State Senator Catharine Young.
CUBA, NY – Two area veterans who answered their Country’s call to military service before graduating from high school received long overdue diplomas during a special ceremony Monday at Cuba-Rushford High School. Senator Catharine Young (R,I,C – Olean) was joined by Cuba-Rushford Superintendent Kevin Shanley and Belfast Central Superintendent Judy May to present high school diplomas through New York State’s Operation Recognition in honor of Marine Corps Sergeant Lester Baker, West Clarksville, and deceased Army Air Forces Corporal June E. Lockwood, who was a Cuba native.
It is with great sadness to report that World War II hero Kenneth Johnson (in photo on right) has passed away as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Our sincere sympathies go out to the Johnson family and we pray for the speedy recovery of his great grandson. Recently we were able to honor Kenneth and below is a link to an article about that special day.
The Daniel Goho Post 87 of the American Legion in Dansville recently honored its long serving members. Among those honored for 65 years of continuous service were, pictured here with Senator Young) (l-r): William Kelly, Roy Werth, Senator Young, Robert Hemmer, and Paul Gerling. Also recognized for their 65 years of service but unable to attend were, Kenneth Bennett, George Bacon, Robert Drum, Demerle Johnson, and Paul MacDonald. WELLSVILLE - An official representing French President Nicolas Sarkozy will make an extraordinary exception to policy by traveling to the Southern Tier to present two local World War II veterans with high honors, according to Senator Catharine M. Young, (R,C,I-Olean).
OLEAN – Decades after serving aboard the USS Oriskany in the Vietnam War, U.S. Navy veteran Gary Clark of West Almond finally was awarded two service medals honoring the former Petty Officer 3rd Class for his years of wartime service.
