STATE COMPTROLLER CONFIRMS SENATOR YOUNG'S CONCERNS

Senator Catharine Young (R,I,C-Olean) today lauded State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s recommendations to postpone future toll hikes by reiterating her opposition to the proposal to hike tolls by up to 20 percent over the next four years.

"The Thruway Authority should immediately put the brakes on their unwarranted and destructive proposed hikes," said Senator Young. "The Comptroller's report that the Senate requested confirmed what we suspected -- the Thruway Authority should find cost savings instead of sticking it to the traveling public."

Senate Introduces Package Of Legislation To Keep NY's Young Drivers Safe

Members of the New York State Senate Majority Conference today introduced SAFE-TEEN New York, a comprehensive package of legislation designed to keep New York’s younger, less experienced drivers safe while on the road and prevent future tragic accidents.

The package of bills was announced today at a Capitol news conference, where the Senators were joined by John Arout of Staten Island, whose 17 year old daughter Michelle was killed in a high speed crash while the driver of her car was racing another teen driver.

Senator Young Secures $750,000 In State Funding For Rt. 19 Project

SCIO - Faced with a threat to the motoring public and local communities along Route 19, Senator Catharine Young has secured a $750,000 state grant for the Genesee River Hazard Mitigation Project. The potential loss of life, property and infrastructure and communities along Route 19 in Belfast and Amity prompted Senator Young’s effort to ensure the grant was included in this year’s state budget as it was needed to serve as the match for the federal FEMA grant.

SENATE CALLS FOR ASSEMBLY ACTION ON BILL TO PROHIBIT SEXUAL CONDUCT BETWEEN STUDENTS AND SCHOOL EMPLOYEES
