Tkaczyk Accepts Leadership Role on Important Senate Committees

State Senator Cecilia Tkaczyk (D-46th S.D.) has been appointed the Ranking Democratic Member on two legislative committees -- Elections and Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities. Senator Tkaczyk: Raising Minimum Wage Helps Women with Children, Benefits the Economy

State Senator Cecilia Tkaczyk joined her colleagues to call for an increase to the  New York State minimum wage and index future increases to the rate of inflation. She said the increase would be especially beneficial to women with small children and have an overall positive effect on the economy.

 “More than 55 percent  of the workers in New York State receiving minimum wage are women, many of them with children,” Tkaczyk said. “Even those who can work 40 or more hours each week are living below the federal poverty level and are struggling to provide their families with decent housing, clothing and food.”

Legislators Call for Action to Save Critical Programs for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities

(ALBANY, March 24, 2014) --  Thousands of infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities rely on Early Intervention (EI) services to help them develop to their fullest potential and have the chance of a normal and fulfilling life.

 But legislative changes and bureaucratic missteps have put many EI service providers out of business. The problem has had the most severe impact on small agencies and sole proprietorships, most of which are woman-owned businesses.

Catskill Daily Mail: Lawmakers call for Early Intervention solution

ALBANY — New York State Senator Cecilia Tkaczyk joined other lawmakers from the senate and assembly Monday afternoon to call for a solution to an administrative problem that has crippled many of the state’s Early Intervention service providers.

The problem stems from a 2011 budget measure that shifted responsibility for collecting third-party insurance payments for EI from counties to a state “fiscal agent,” which has left many small providers waiting months for payments and struggling under the administrative burden of filing claims.
