In response to the 3 drunk driving arrests made by Suffolk Police over the weekend of parents with their kids in the cars, Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) is calling for Assembly passage of a new law he is supporting (S2272) that would increase penalties for those who drive drunk with a child in their car. Senator Fuschillo Brings State Capitol Into Farmingdale Classroom Using New Video Conferencing Technology

Using new video conferencing technology, a class of Farmingdale fifth graders were able to visit with Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) in the state capitol without ever having to leave their school. The equipment allowed Senator Fuschillo and the students to see each other and converse in real time, even though they were in different parts of the state.From his office in Albany, Senator Fuschillo explained his role as a state legislator and talked about how new laws are passed.

Senator Fuschillo Honors Merrick Little League's Championship Team In State Capitol

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently welcomed the players and coaches of the Merrick Little League’s 12 year old team to the State Capitol, where they were honored for winning the 2005 New York State Championship. The team defeated East Greenbush in the finals last summer to capture the first State Championship for 12 year olds in Merrick’s 55 year history. The team spent an eventful day in Albany, which began in the Senate Chambers where they were greeted by Senator Fuschillo.

Senator Fuschillo Calls On Assembly To Pass Senate Bill Eliminating State Sales Tax On Gasoline And Attorney General To Watch For Price Gouging

As the price of gasoline continues to skyrocket to over $3 per gallon, Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) is calling on the Assembly to pass legislation he is cosponsoring that would save New Yorkers an estimated $320 million this year alone by capping gasoline sales tax once the price per gallon reaches $2. The New York State Senate passed the legislation earlier this year, but it has stalled in the Assembly."New York State must do its fair share to help provide relief at the gas pump to drivers.

To help senior citizens save money on their prescription drug costs, Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently held an informational community meeting with Assemblyman Joseph Saladino (12th Assembly District) at Massapequa Park Village Hall to provide information about New York State’s Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage (EPIC) program. A representative from the EPIC program was on hand to explain how the program works and answer questions from the audience.

Fuschillo Bill To Provide Bus Transportation For Children With Non-ambulatory Parents Passes Senate

The New York State Senate has passed legislation, sponsored by Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District), that would allow school districts to provide transportation for children who live below the transportation mileage limit, but whose parents are non-ambulatory. Under current law, school districts can choose to provide transportation for children who live within distances less than those required by law (2 miles for grades K-8, 3 miles in grades 9-12), so long as it is done equally in all cases.

Fuschillo Measure To Increase Access To Home Care For Medically Fragile Children Included In Budget Agreement

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District), a member of the Senate’s Health Committee, today announced legislative approval of a measure he is sponsoring that would make it easier for medically fragile children on Medicaid to receive care at home rather than in the hospital. The legislation would increase payment rates to nurses who provide these children with home care, bringing them in line with payment rates for similar services for AIDS home care programs."Prolonged hospital stays can be very scary for both children and their parents.

Senators Fuschillo And Hannon Announce Traffic Improvements At Intersection Of Newbridge Road And East Meadow Avenue

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) and Senator Kemp Hannon (6th Senate District) announced today that the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) will be making improvements at the intersection of Newbridge Road (Route 106) and East Meadow Avenue to help ease the flow of traffic. Additional vehicle detectors will be installed along the southbound side of East Meadow Avenue. Vehicle detectors are designed to sense when traffic is waiting so that the timing of the green light can be extended.

Senator Fuschillo Cosponsors Legislation To Eliminate E-z Pass Surcharge

The New York State Senate today passed legislation, cosponsored by Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District), that would prohibit agencies that administer E-Z Pass in New York State from imposing monthly surcharges. This would repeal the $1 a month surcharge currently being imposed by the MTA and Port Authority on Long Island E-Z Pass users. Senator Fuschillo supported this legislation after he was contacted by many of his constituents stating that an unwarranted $1 a month administrative service charge was being tacked on to their E-Z Pass account bills.
