Senator Fuschillo Announces Educational Budget Reforms

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) announced that the newly passed state budget includes a provision to create a uniform school budget re-vote date throughout New York State. This reform will allow all New York residents to be certain about the date if a re-vote is taken and will better enable their voice to be heard.The budget approved by the state legislature requires that if an original school budget proposal is voted down and a re-vote is called for, this re-vote must now be held on the third Tuesday in June for all boards throughout the state.

Senator Fuschillo Welcomes Shore Road Elementary School Band And Orchestra To The State Capitol

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently welcomed the Shore Road Elementary School band and orchestra to the New York State Capitol, where they were invited to perform as part of the New York State School Music Association’s (NYSSMA) 33rd annual "Music In Our Schools Month" program. The band and orchestra performed at the South Concourse of the Empire State Plaza. After their concerts, the students met with Senator Fuschillo, who invited them into the Senate Chambers to view a working session of the New York State Senate.

Senator Fuschillo Joins American Airpower Museum In Saluting Vietnam Veterans

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) joined the staff and invited guests at the American Airpower Museum in Farmingdale as they welcomed a swing wing F-111 supersonic bomber to the museum. Senator Fuschillo was instrumental in securing state funding for the transportation of the fighter from Texas to its new home on Long Island. The plane was hoisted from a flatbed truck by volunteers of the Operating Engineers of Long Island and will be reassembled as a salute to the thousands of Long Island veterans who served during the Vietnam conflict.

The event offered parents the opportunity to have their child safety seats examined by certified inspectors.The free safety inspections were done as part of EAC’s Safe Start program, which aims to improve the use of safety restraints for all motor vehicle occupants and to promote safer driving practices through education.

Merrick Little League Goes To Albany

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th District) recently welcomed the New York State Champion Merrick Little League 9-10 year old team to Albany as his guests. The Merrick team won the state title in August after defeating Staten Island in the finals. The team spent an eventful day in Albany. After touring the State Capitol Building, they enjoyed a visit with both Governor George Pataki and Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno.

Senator Fuschillo Announces New Safety Improvements To Route 109

The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) will be making new safety improvements to Route 109 in East Farmingdale, thanks to the efforts of Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District).

After receiving a request from Senator Fuschillo and the East Farmingdale Civic Association to investigate the safety conditions at the intersection of Route 109 and East Carmans Road, the DOT studied the area and determined that a right turn lane should be installed on the westbound side of Route 109 to enhance safety.

Senator Fuschillo And Assemblyman Weisenberg Propose New Restrictions For Tanning Salons

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) and Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg (20th Assembly District) announced today that they introduced legislation which would impose new safety restrictions on tanning salons. Under the provisions of this legislation, children between the ages of fourteen and eighteen would be required to have their parents sign a statement acknowledging that they have read the required safety notices already issued by the Department of Health before using the tanning equipment.
