SENATOR FUSCHILLO, TOWN CLERK BONILLA, & SUPERVISOR MURRAY TO SPONSOR SENIOR ID CARD PROGRAM IN FREEPORT

        Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) will be partnering with Town of Hempstead Town Clerk Mark Bonilla and Supervisor Kate Murray in sponsoring a free Senior ID Card Programs in Freeport.

        The program will be held on Wednesday, February 29th from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Freeport Memorial Library, located at 144 West Merrick Road in Freeport. All Town of Hempstead residents ages 60 and over are eligible to participate and receive a free senior ID card.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO SPONSORING FIRST AID SUPPLY DRIVE

        Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is partnering with the Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) in sponsoring a first aid supply drive to help individuals in need. All first aid items collected through the drive will be used by the INN to serve families in need throughout our communities.

        Residents are invited to donate any of the following new, unused items:

        * alcohol swabs

        * gauze pads

        * cotton balls

        * band-aids (adult & child)

SENATOR FUSCHILLO: NEW YORK STATE’S COMPLETE STREETS LAW TAKES EFFECT THIS SATURDAY

        Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that New York State’s “complete streets” law, which he authored to help make roadways safer for all who use them, takes effect this Saturday, February 11th.

        "This law will help save lives and make our roads safer for everyone. Complete streets design principles have been proven to reduce fatalities and injuries. Taking them into consideration on future projects will help safeguard drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists of all ages and abilities while they’re on the roads,” said Senator Fuschillo, Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO: NEW LIPA OVERSIGHT MEASURES SIGNED INTO LAW

        Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that legislation he cosponsored to greatly strengthen oversight of LIPA has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

        “For years, LIPA ratepayers have rightfully demanded greater oversight over LIPA and its financial practices. With this new law, they’re finally getting new levels of transparency and accountability from LIPA that are long overdue. I’m pleased that Governor Cuomo has approved these new protections for LIPA ratepayers,” said Senator Fuschillo, a member of the Senate’s Energy Committee.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES PUBLIC HEARING ON DISTRACTED DRIVING MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13TH

        Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee, announced that the Committee will be holding a public hearing on distracted driving this Monday, February 13th at 10 am in Hearing Room A of the State Legislative Office Building in Albany. The public hearing will examine the National Transportation Safety Board’s (NTSB) December 2011 recommendations on distracted driving and explore how New York State can better prevent distracted driving on its roadways.

SENATE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE APPROVES LEGISLATION TO ENSURE REPEAT ALCOHOL OFFENDERS FACE APPROPRIATE PENALTIES

SENATE PASSES FUSCHILLO RESOLUTION MEMORIALIZING THE LIFE OF NORTH MERRICK VETERAN BILL HALLERAN

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate recently passed a legislative resolution memorializing the life of North Merrick veteran Irving William “Bill” Halleran, who passed away in December at the age of 93.

“Bill Halleran was a very special person who loved his country and community and served them both with distinction. Whether it was as a member of the Navy, as an American Legion member, or a volunteer fireman, Bill never hesitated to lend a helping hand to those in need. I’m pleased that the Senate paid tribute to an incredible man who leaves behind an incredible legacy,” said Senator Fuschillo, who sponsored the resolution.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO & MERRICK COLLEGE STUDENT DISCUSS IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNITY SERVICE

        Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently met with CW Post student, and Merrick resident, Nicole Pitone to discuss the importance of community service.

        Nicole, who is President of the college’s “Post TV” club, interviewed Senator Fuschillo about the importance of public and community service, as well as ways that individuals can get involved to help the community. They also discussed a service project the Club is organizing to benefit the Interfaith Nutrition Network, a local organization which provides assistance to those in need.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO MEETS WITH LOCAL BOY SCOUT ROBOTICS TEAM

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently met with four local scouts as part of their project for a science and technology competition.

The scouts, Brian Harding and Kyle Kravit of Merrick, Jack Miller of Farmingdale, and Tim O’Leary of East Meadow, are competing as a team in the First Lego League’s “Food Factor” competition. The First Lego League is a competition designed to get children excited about science and technology through research, problem solving and engineering.

OLD MILL ROAD KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS WELCOME SENATOR FUSCHILLO TO THEIR CLASS

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently visited Old Mill Road Elementary School in North Merrick to serve as a guest reader to Mrs. Morash’s kindergarten class.

Senator Fuschillo read “House Mouse, Senate Mouse” by Peter and Cheryl Barnes to the students. The story allowed the children to learn in a fun way what Senator Fuschillo’s job is and how laws are made.

“I really enjoyed my visit to Old Mill Road. It was wonderful to see how involved the students got into the story and how excited they got about reading. I thank them for allowing me to visit their class,” said Senator Fuschillo.
