SENATOR FUSCHILLO & SUPERVISOR MURRAY SPONSOR FREE LEGAL SERVICES PROGRAM IN ROOSEVELT

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray recently sponsored a program to provide free legal services to those in need.

     Senator Fuschillo and Supervisor Murray arranged to bring the Mobile Legal Help Center, which is a partnership between the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) and the New York State Office of Court Administration, to Roosevelt. NYLAG attorneys provided free advice, legal counseling, and direct representation to local residents on matters such as Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and Social Security Disability.

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with the Wantagh Kiwanis Club at their annual installation ceremony and costume ball.

     Senator Fuschillo thanked the Kiwanis Club members for everything they do to serve the community and extended his best wishes to incoming President Chris Brown for a successful term of office.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO PARTICIPATES IN NEW VISION SCHOOL’S “ALL STAR READER’S DAY”

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently visited New Visions School in Freeport to participate in the school’s “All Star Reader’s Day”.

     Senator Fuschillo read “House Mouse, Senate Mouse” by Peter and Cheryl Barnes to students in Ms. Murphy’s kindergarten class. The story allowed the children to learn in a fun way what Senator Fuschillo’s job is and how laws are made.

     “New Vision’s ‘All Star Reader’s Day’ is a great program and I enjoyed participating in it. It was great seeing how involved the students got into the story and how excited they got about reading. I thank them for allowing me to visit their class,” said Senator Fuschillo.

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently visited Bellmore Family Medical Associates to congratulate Dr. Donald Teplitz and his staff on their 20 years of service to the community. Bellmore Family Medical Associates, located on Bellmore Avenue in Bellmore, has been a fixture in the Bellmore community and provides comprehensive, state of the art medical care to local families.

     Senator Fuschillo also congratulated Bellmore Family Medical’s newest member, and Bellmore native, Dr. Michael Moskowitz on joining the practice.

NEW FUSCHILLO LAW TO EXPAND ACCESS TO VACCINES TAKES EFFECT TODAY

Law Allows Pharmacists to Administer the Shingles Vaccine

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that a new law he authored to give residents greater access to vaccines is now in effect.

     The new law adds the shingles vaccine to the list of immunizations that licensed pharmacists are permitted to administer to adults when ordered by a patient's physician or nurse practitioner.

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), along with the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) and Freeport Mayor Andrew Hardwick, recently sponsored a Free Foreclosure Prevention Program to assist homeowners facing foreclosure.

     DFS’ Mobile Foreclosure Relief Center, which was located at the Freeport Train Station parking lot, provided services and assistance to homeowners facing pre-foreclosure or foreclosure proceedings.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO SPONSORS PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING PROGRAM IN LINDENHURST

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), in conjunction with the Integrated Medical Foundation and Bostwick Laboratories, recently sponsored a free prostate cancer screening program at the Lindenhurst Community Center.

     Men who participated in the program received a free prostate cancer screening, regardless of whether or not they had insurance. The screenings were performed by Dr. Marc Schumer, MD.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO & ASSEMBLYMAN McDONOUGH SUPPORT “WALK NOW FOR AUTISM SPEAKS”

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Assemblyman David McDonough (R-North Merrick) recently attended the annual “Walk Now for Autism Speaks” at Jones Beach. Over 32,000 individuals participated in the walk to raise awareness and funds for research which aims to find a cure for autism.

     Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McDonough thanked the walkers for their efforts and congratulated Merrick resident Michael Giangregorio, who once again served as the Walk’s Chairman, on the most successful event yet. The walk is the largest in the country, according to Autism Speaks.

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today invited residents to participate in two online Q & A sessions he will be holding on Monday, October 22nd at 10 am and Wednesday, October 24th at 7 pm. Both Q & A sessions will be held on Senator Fuschillo’s website, Fuschillo.nysenate.gov.

     “These Q & A sessions allow residents to participate in a town hall style meeting without ever having to leave their home or office,” said Senator Fuschillo. “I encourage everyone to submit their questions and then watch the sessions.”

SENATOR FUSCHILLO AND COUNTY EXECUTIVE MANGANO TO SPONSOR FREE SENIOR ID CARD PROGRAM IN MASSAPEQUA PARK

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) will be partnering with Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano in sponsoring a free Senior ID Card Program in Massapequa Park.

     The program will be held from 12:00 pm-3:00 pm on Tuesday, October 23rd at the Massapequa Public Library (Bar Harbour Building), located at 40 Harbor Lane in Massapequa Park. All Nassau County residents ages 65 and over are eligible to participate and receive a free senior ID card. No appointments are necessary.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO TO PARTNER WITH WANTAGH & MASSAPEQUA FIRE DEPARTMENTS IN OFFERING FREE CITIZEN CPR COURSES

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that he will be partnering with the Wantagh and Massapequa Fire Departments in offering free Citizen CPR courses to residents on Saturday, October 27, 2012.

     The courses will be held at the Wantagh Fire Department Headquarters, located at 3470 Park Avenue in Wantagh from 10:00 am to 11:00 am and at the Massapequa Fire Station located at 515 Hicksville Road in Massapequa from 10:00 am-11:00 am and 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Trained CPR professionals will instruct residents on what to do when in an emergency situation where someone needs CPR.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF NASSAU COUNTY LEGISLATOR PETER SCHMITT

     “Nassau County Legislator Peter Schmitt was a great public servant, an even greater man, and a true friend. Like so many others whose lives were touched by Peter, I am stunned and saddened by his tragic passing.

     Peter was a man of principles who never hesitated to stand up for what he thought was right. Throughout his service in the Nassau County Legislature, he was a tireless advocate for his constituents, as well as all the residents of Nassau County, and never stopped working on their behalf. He leaves behind a legacy that will last for generations to come.

     My most heartfelt condolences go out to Peter’s wife and best friend, Lois, his daughter Samantha, and his entire family.”

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ENCOURAGES WOMEN TO GET SCREENED AS PART OF BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is encouraging women to be safe and get a mammography screening as part of breast cancer awareness month.

     “Early detection is the best defense women have against breast cancer, which is the most common form of cancer among women,” said Senator Fuschillo. “Getting annual mammograms is an important step that women should take to protect their health.”

     According to the American Cancer Society, early detection improves the chances that breast cancer can be diagnosed at an early stage and treated successfully. The American Cancer Society offers the following recommendations for early breast cancer detection:
