SENATOR FUSCHILLO CONGRATULATES COPIAGUE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FOR AWARD WINNING “AMAZING ANIMAL” PHOTOS

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently visited Copiague High School to congratulate two students who earned awards in his “Amazing Animals” Photo Contest. The contest gave residents of all ages a fun way to show their appreciation for animals.

     Julia Woelk was chosen as a 1st place winner Christopher Falci received an honorable mention for his photo submission. Both students are part of Ms. Lorraine Ciccotto’s digital photography class. The entire class submitted entries into the contest.

     Julia and Christopher’s photos, along with the rest of the photo submissions, will be available for viewing on Senator Fuschillo’s website, Fuschillo.nysenate.gov.

SENATE PASSES SENATOR FUSCHILLO’S RESOLUTION HONORING MERRICK EAGLE SCOUT

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently announced that the New York State Senate passed a legislative resolution he sponsored honoring Merrick resident James Harrington for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.

     James, a member of Merrick Boy Scout Troop 351, earned the award after years of hard work rising through scouting’s ranks, dedication to scouting’s ideals, and service to others.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ATTENDS VILLAGE OF LINDENHURST’S SUPERSTORM SANDY RECOVERY EXPO

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently attended the Village of Lindenhurst’s “Resources for Residents” Superstorm Sandy Recovery Expo.

     The event, which was sponsored by the Village and held at the Rainbow Senior Center, allowed residents affected by Superstorm Sandy to get information about recovery services and assistance from numerous government and non-profit agencies and local community groups.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES SENATE PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION TO STRENGTHEN LEANDRA’S LAW

 

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced today that the New York State Senate passed legislation he sponsors to strengthen Leandra’s Law.  The legislation would close an unintended legal loophole which is allowing convicted drunk drivers to escape the mandatory ignition interlock requirement under Leandra’s Law.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO’S LEGISLATION TO AID IN COLLECTION OF CHILD SUPPORT APPROVED BY TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that legislation he sponsored to help ensure that parents make their child support payments has been approved by the Senate’s Transportation Committee. 

     The legislation (S4246) extends an existing law which allows the state to suspend the driver’s licenses of parents who fail to pay child support. Under the driver’s license suspension process, the state identifies parents who failed to pay child support and have a driver’s license. These individuals are then notified that their license will be suspended unless they make their child support payments.

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Assemblyman David McDonough (R-North Merrick) recently joined with the Wantagh Little League in celebrating the opening day of the 2013 season. 

     Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McDonough offered their best wishes to the players, coaches, and parents for a fun and safe season. Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McDonough also offered their thanks to Ed Ciminelli, the league’s longtime President who will be retiring at the end of the season, for his extraordinary service to the Wantagh community.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO INVITES RESIDENTS TO HIS JOB RESOURCE EXPO ON MAY 3RD

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) will be holding a Job Resource Expo to help individuals looking for jobs better prepare themselves to find employment. The event will be held on Friday, May 3rd from 10 am to 12 pm at the Freeport Recreation Center, which is located at 130 East Merrick Road in Freeport.

     “The current job market is extremely competitive, but there are programs and services that can help residents improve their chances of finding employment. This event will enable individuals to learn about job training and educational programs, have their resumes reviewed, and learn other steps they can take to give themselves the best chance to succeed in their job search,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO AND SENATOR ZELDIN OPPOSE MAYORAL CONTROL OF MTA

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Chairman of the New York State Senate’s Transportation Committee, and Senator Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley), a member of the Senate’s Transportation Committee, today announced their strong opposition to a proposal to have the Mayor of New York City have control over the MTA.

     “It is obvious that there is an election for the Mayor of New York City because the silly season is upon us. Residents from the suburban communities outside New York City pay a heavy financial burden to the MTA, and they would be disenfranchised under this proposal. For the position of the Mayor of New York City to have control over the MTA is simply absurd,” said Senator Fuschillo.

     The free car seat safety check will be held from 9 am to 12 pm at John Burns Park (front west parking lot), located at 4990 Merrick Road in Massapequa Park.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO, SENATOR SKELOS, AND COUNTY EXECUTIVE MANGANO SPONSOR FREE SENIOR ID CARD PROGRAM IN BALDWIN

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Senator Dean Skelos, and Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano recently sponsored a free Senior ID Card Program in Baldwin.

     The program offers seniors ages 65 or older a free wallet-sized ID card which includes a photo, the holder’s personal contact information (name, address, phone number, date of birth), and an emergency contact name and phone number which could be useful to emergency responders. Seniors can carry the card in their wallet so that emergency responders will know who to contact if the senior is in an emergency situation and cannot communicate.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES NEW STATE FUNDING FOR MASSAPEQUA PARK ROADWAY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that he has secured over $200,000 in new state funding for a road improvement project in the Village of Massapequa Park.

     The funding will allow the Village to reconstruct Philadelphia Avenue between Pittsburg Avenue and Cypress Street. According to the Village of Massapequa Park, the reconstruction project will include a new road base, asphalt paving, drainage improvements, concrete sidewalks, aprons, handicapped ramps and curbs. The Village states that the project is needed to help repair the deteriorating section of roadway and alleviate drainage issues in the area.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO PARTICIPATES IN VILLAGE OF FREEPORT’S INSTALLATION CEREMONY

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently attended the installation ceremony of the new Village board for the Village of Freeport.

     Senator Fuschillo participated in the ceremony by swearing in newly elected Village Trustee Ron Ellerbe. He also offered his congratulations to new Mayor Robert Kennedy and Deputy Mayor Carmen Pineyro as they begin their new term in office.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO, SENATOR HANNON AND COUNTY EXECUTIVE MANGANO TO SPONSOR FREE SENIOR ID CARD PROGRAM IN FARMINGDALE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Senator Kemp Hannon (R-Garden City) will be partnering with Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano in sponsoring a free Senior ID Card Program in Farmingdale.

     The program will be held from 1:00 pm- 4:00 pm on Thursday, April 25th at the Farmingdale Library, located at 116 Merritts Road in Farmingdale. Nassau County residents ages 65 and over are eligible to participate and receive a free senior ID card. No appointments are necessary.

Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McDonough threw out the ceremonial first pitch to officially kick off the team’s 2013 season.

FREEPORT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE NAMES SENATOR FUSCHILLO “CITIZEN OF THE YEAR”

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) was recently named “Citizen of the Year” by the Freeport Chamber of Commerce.

     The Freeport Chamber of Commerce bestowed the award on Senator Fuschillo “in recognition of [his] outstanding service and contributions to the Village of Freeport.”

     “I am extremely grateful and thankful to the Freeport Chamber of Commerce for honoring me with this award. I look forward to continuing to work with the Freeport Chamber of Commerce to improve the quality of life for all the residents of the Village,” said Senator Fuschillo.
