SENATOR FUSCHILLO, TOWN CLERK BONILLA, & SUPERVISOR MURRAY TO SPONSOR SENIOR ID CARD PROGRAM IN ROOSEVELT

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) will be partnering with Town of Hempstead Town Clerk Mark Bonilla and Supervisor Kate Murray in sponsoring a free Senior ID Card Program in Roosevelt.

     The program will be held on Friday, June 15th from 12 pm to 3 pm at the Roosevelt Library, located at 27 West Fulton Avenue in Roosevelt. All Town of Hempstead residents ages 60 and over are eligible to participate and receive a free senior ID card.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO THANKS RESIDENTS FOR DONATING OVER 1,000 EYEGLASSES & HEARING AIDS TO HELP OTHERS

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently partnered with the Merrick Lions Club in sponsoring a program at the Merrick train station where residents could donate their old eyeglasses and hearing aids . Over 1,000 old eyeglasses and hearing aids were collected through the program.

     All the eyeglasses and hearing aids collected through the program will be used by the Lions Club to help improve the lives of needy children and adults who cannot afford glasses or hearing aids.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO TO SPONSOR BREAST CANCER SCREENING PROGRAM IN MASSAPEQUA

    New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), in conjunction with NuHealth/Nassau Health Care Corporation, will be sponsoring a breast cancer screening program on Thursday, June 21st from 8:45 am to 12:00 pm at the Massapequa Library- Bar Harbour Building. The library is located at 40 Harbor Lane in Massapequa Park.

 

    Appointments are necessary and will be scheduled on first-come, first-served basis. On site nurses and technicians will provide a mammography, a clinical breast examination and instructions for self examination. Patients and their physicians will be notified of the exam results.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO HELPS CELEBRATE LEVY-LAKESIDE SCHOOL’S 60TH ANNIVERSARY

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with students, staff and parents to help celebrate the 60th anniversary of Levy-Lakeside School in Merrick.

     As part of the celebration, Senator Fuschillo, joined by Assemblyman Dave McDonough, Supervisor Kate Murray, and Legislator Dave Denenberg, helped cut the ribbon on the school’s new “Merrick, Then and Now” exhibit, which shows old black and white photos of the Merrick community from decades past and current color photos of how those same locations look today.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO CONGRATULATES ROBERT LLOYD ON APPOINTMENT TO STATE’S AMISTAD COMMISSION

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently congratulated Robert Lloyd on being appointed to the Amistad Commission. Mr. Lloyd was appointed by Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos at the recommendation of Senator Fuschillo.

     The Amistad Commission reviews state education curriculum regarding slavery and seeks ways to improve education about the history of slavery and its impact, along with the significant contributions made by African-Americans to the development of this country.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES SENATE PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION TO REPEAL LIRR TICKET REFUND FEE

Legislation Would Require MTA to Give Customers Full Refunds on Unused One-Way and Round-Trip LIRR Tickets

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate recently passed legislation he cosponsors to repeal the MTA’s refund fee on one-way and round-trip LIRR tickets.

     “Charging riders a ticket refund fee that is often more expensive than the ticket itself is totally unreasonable. This legislation would put a stop to this unfair policy and require the MTA to do the right thing by its customers,” said Senator Fuschillo, Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee.

SENATE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE PASSES LEGISLATION TO HELP COMBAT WRONG-WAY DRIVING

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee announced that the Committee approved legislation to help prevent wrong-way driving crashes on New York’s roadways.

     Under the legislation (S938, Senator Marcellino), the Department of Transportation would be required to create a program in consultation with the Department of Motor Vehicles to address wrong-way driving. The program would investigate the reasons for wrong-way driving crashes; examine what other states have done; set forth possible solutions; and implement measures to address wrong-way driving.

WANTAGH BOY SCOUTS DISCUSS STATE GOVERNMENT WITH SENATOR FUSCHILLO

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently met with boy scouts from Troop 96 in Wantagh to help them earn their citizenship merit badge.

     Senator Fuschillo spoke with the scouts to help them earn their citizenship merit badge. Senator Fuschillo and the scouts discussed his job as a State Senator, the state budget, and how the legislative process works. The boys also shared their concerns about local community issues and offered their ideas for new laws.

BUSINESSES LEARN HOW TO GROW AT SENATOR FUSCHILLO’S SMALL BUSINESS NETWORKING EXPO

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently held his annual Small Business Networking Expo, where entrepreneurs from across Long Island came to network and learn how to help their businesses grow.

     Business owners who participated in Senator Fuschillo’s Small Business Networking Expo were able to learn about a variety of different business assistance programs designed to help businesses grow and develop. At the event, business owners were able to speak individually with representatives from government and non-profit agencies about these programs, as well as with representatives from local Chambers of Commerce about the services they provide.

FUSCHILLO LEGISLATION RAISING PENALTIES FOR TOLL DODGING PASSED BY SENATE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that legislation he sponsors to raise penalties for drivers who intentionally avoid paying tolls on toll roads has been passed by the New York State Senate.

     Under current law, those who try to evade paying for other public transportation services, such as hopping a subway turnstile or jumping out of a taxi cab without paying, can be charged with theft of services, a class A misdemeanor. However, evading tolls on toll roads is not included under the law.

     The legislation (S4610) would give law enforcement the ability to charge toll dodgers with a class A misdemeanor under the state’s theft of services law.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO & ASSEMBLYMAN McDONOUGH CONGRATULATE “KEEP A-MERRICK-A BEAUTIFUL” CONTEST WINNERS

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Assemblyman David McDonough (R-North Merrick) recently visited Fayette Elementary School to congratulate the winners of the annual “Keep A-Merrick-a Beautiful” environmental poster and essay contest.

     The “Keep A-Merrick-A Beautiful” contest is a yearly event for schoolchildren in grades K-8 in Merrick and North Merrick elementary and middle schools which helps students learn about the importance of keeping their community and environment clean.

     “Each of the students did a great job raising awareness about protecting our environment. I’m pleased to congratulate all of them on submitting such outstanding entries,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO JOINS MASSAPEQUA RESIDENTS IN CALLING FOR CHILD SAFETY ZONE TO PROTECT STUDENTS

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with members of the Massapequa community at a rally calling on the State Department of Transportation to designate Sunrise Highway as a school safety zone to protect students.

     Senator Fuschillo, who has been working with community members to get the Department to designate the area a school safety zone, informed residents at the rally that he recently received a letter from the State Department of Education supporting the school safety zone designation.

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently congratulated Merrick resident Dr. Donald Teplitz on being appointed to the Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Advisory Board. Dr. Teplitz was appointed by Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos at the recommendation of Senator Fuschillo.

     The Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Advisory Board advises the New York State Commissioner of Health on tobacco use prevention and control issues, including methods to prevent and reduce tobacco use in the state.

Residents Invited to Donate Their Old Eyeglasses or Hearing Aids to Help Improve the Lives of Others

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and the Merrick Lions Club will be sponsoring an eyeglass & hearing aid donation program where residents can donate their old or unwanted eyeglasses and hearing aids.

     The program will be held on Saturday, May 19th from 9 am to 12 pm at the Merrick Train Station Parking lot located on the Northwest corner of Merrick Avenue and Sunrise Highway. Residents will be able to drive up, drop off their old eyeglasses and/or hearing aids, and drive away.

     Lauren, a member of the Massapequa Association of Girl Scouts, was in Albany as part of the Girl Scouts’ annual legislative showcase featuring bronze, silver, and gold award recipients from across the state.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO NAMED “LEGISLATIVE CHAMPION” BY AUTISM SPEAKS

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) was recently named a “legislative champion” by Autism Speaks.

     Autism Speaks chose Senator Fuschillo for the honor for authoring New York State’s autism insurance reform law. The law will enable individuals with autism spectrum disorders to receive insurance coverage for screening, diagnosis and treatment. The law will save families with autism tens of thousands of dollars a year in out of pocket costs for autism treatment and therapies which many insurance companies refuse to cover. The law takes effect on November 1st.

SENATE PASSES FUSCHILLO RESOLUTION DESIGNATING MAY AS “SKIN CANCER DETECTION AND PREVENTION MONTH” IN NEW YORK STATE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that the New York State Senate passed a legislative resolution he sponsored designating May as “Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month” in New York State.

     “Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer, but it is also one of the most treatable if it is detected early. Indoor tanning or even one bad sunburn can greatly increase the risk of developing skin cancer, which is why it’s so important for residents to be safe and get screened. With summer only a few short weeks away, now is the perfect time to remind residents about the importance protecting themselves from skin cancer and being safe while in the sun,” said Senator Fuschillo.
