SENATOR FUSCHILLO, TOWN CLERK BONILLA, & SUPERVISOR MURRAY TO SPONSOR SENIOR ID CARD PROGRAM IN NORTH BELLMORE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) will be partnering with Town of Hempstead Town Clerk Mark Bonilla and Supervisor Kate Murray in sponsoring a free Senior ID Card Program in North Bellmore.

     The program will be held on Monday, March 26th from 1 pm to 4 pm at the North Bellmore Library, located at 1551 Newbridge Road in North Bellmore. All Town of Hempstead residents ages 60 and over are eligible to participate and receive a free senior ID card.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO VOTES TO PREVENT DISTRACTED DRIVING AMONG TEENAGERS

Legislation Would Prohibit Individuals Holding Learner’s Permits from Talking on the Phone Behind the Wheel

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate recently passed legislation he cosponsored to help prevent distracted driving among teenagers. The legislation would ban anyone holding a learner’s permit from talking on the phone while driving.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO TO SPONSOR FREE PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING PROGRAM IN MASSAPEQUA PARK

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), in conjunction with the Integrated Medical Foundation, will be sponsoring a free prostate cancer screening program in Massapequa Park.

     The free screening program will be held on Thursday, April 5th between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm at the Massapequa Library (Bar Harbour Building), which is located at 40 Harbor Lane in Massapequa Park. The free screenings will be conducted by Dr. Michael Ziegelbaum, Dr. Matthew Mene and Dr. Evan Eisenberg from Advanced Urology Centers of New York.

SENATE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE APPROVES LEGISLATION TO PERMANENTLY REVOKE DRIVER’S LICENSES OF PERSISTENT DUI OFFENDERS

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee, today announced that the Committee has passed legislation to permanently revoke the driver’s licenses of persistent drunk driving offenders.

     “Driving is a privilege, not a right. No one with eight or nine DUI convictions should be handed a driver’s license, but that’s happening right now under current law. This legislation would change that and ensure that individuals who continually drive under the influence will lose their licenses for good,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATE PASSES FUSCHILLO RESOLUTION HONORING NORTH BELLMORE EAGLE SCOUT

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate recently passed a legislative resolution he sponsored honoring North Bellmore resident Matthew Murphy for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.

     “Only a select few ever achieve what Matthew has; the rank of Eagle Scout. Matthew’s years of hard work, dedication to scouting, and community service make him more than worthy to hold scouting’s highest rank. I congratulate him on earning this honor and am pleased that his accomplishment was recognized by the New York State Senate,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATE PASSES FUSCHILLO RESOLUTION HONORING WANTAGH FIREFIGHTER FOR 60 YEARS OF SERVICE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate recently passed a legislative resolution he sponsored honoring Wantagh Fire Department Commissioner and Ex-Chief Donald Snyder for his 60 years of service to the Wantagh community.

     “For the last 60 years, Donald Snyder has selflessly volunteered his time and energy to protect the residents of the Wantagh Fire District. His devoted service to the community deserves our admiration, respect, and gratitude. I’m pleased that the Senate passed this resolution to recognize his long and dedicated service to the Wantagh Fire Department and the community,” said Senator Fuschillo.

Legislation Would, For the First Time, Link Convictions for Operating Different Vehicles While Intoxicated

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo. Jr. (R-Merrick) recently voted in favor of “Tiffany’s Law,” which would ensure that individuals with prior convictions of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated are treated as repeat offenders, regardless of the vehicle type.  The legislation was recently passed by the New York State Senate.

        Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is reminding all Town of Babylon residents that the deadline to file applications for New York State’s School Tax Relief (STAR) program and other property tax exemptions in the Town of Babylon is March 1st.

        New York State’s STAR program works in two parts:

        - Basic STAR is available to all New Yorkers who own and live in their own home, condominium, or cooperative apartment whose combined total adjusted gross income does not exceed $500,000, regardless of age.

        Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is partnering with the Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) in sponsoring a first aid supply drive to help individuals in need. All first aid items collected through the drive will be used by the INN to serve families in need throughout our communities.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO: NEW YORK STATE’S COMPLETE STREETS LAW TAKES EFFECT THIS SATURDAY

        Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that New York State’s “complete streets” law, which he authored to help make roadways safer for all who use them, takes effect this Saturday, February 11th.

        "This law will help save lives and make our roads safer for everyone. Complete streets design principles have been proven to reduce fatalities and injuries. Taking them into consideration on future projects will help safeguard drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists of all ages and abilities while they’re on the roads,” said Senator Fuschillo, Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO: NEW LIPA OVERSIGHT MEASURES SIGNED INTO LAW

        Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that legislation he cosponsored to greatly strengthen oversight of LIPA has been signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

        “For years, LIPA ratepayers have rightfully demanded greater oversight over LIPA and its financial practices. With this new law, they’re finally getting new levels of transparency and accountability from LIPA that are long overdue. I’m pleased that Governor Cuomo has approved these new protections for LIPA ratepayers,” said Senator Fuschillo, a member of the Senate’s Energy Committee.
