Law Would Help Resolve Transportation Infrastructure Crisis,Create Jobs, and Promote Economic Development

     With New York State needing to develop plans to repair both its economy and its roads and bridges, Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today called for legislative action on legislation allowing New York State to utilize public-private partnerships (P3s) to help finance and deliver transportation infrastructure projects. The legislation, which Senator Fuschillo sponsors, would help the state resolve its growing transportation infrastructure crisis, create thousands of jobs, and promote economic development.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO CALLS ON ASSEMBLY TO JOIN SENATE IN APPROVING NEW TAX CREDITS FOR BUSINESSES THAT CREATE JOBS

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is calling on the Assembly to join the Senate in approving legislation to provide businesses with a tax credit for each new job they create.

“Creating jobs and putting people back to work is the best way to improve our economy. Rewarding businesses for hiring new employees is a commonsense step to promote economic development, especially at a time when over 94,000 Long Islanders are unemployed. That’s exactly what this legislation does and that’s why the Assembly should pass it,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO REMINDS NASSAU COUNTY RESIDENTS TO APPLY FOR PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTIONS BEFORE JANUARY 2ND

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is reminding all Nassau County residents that the deadline to file applications for property tax exemptions, including the New York State School Tax Relief (STAR) program, is January 2, 2012.

"New York State’s STAR program, as well as other tax exemptions offered by Nassau County, can help eligible homeowners save money on their property taxes. If you haven’t already applied for STAR or other property tax exemptions for which you might be eligible, be sure to do so by the January 2nd deadline,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO NAMED ONE OF THE TOP “PRO-JOBS” SUPPORTERS BY BUSINESS COUNCIL OF NEW YORK STATE

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) was recently named one of the New York State Legislature’s top “pro-jobs” supporters by the Business Council of New York State. Senator Fuschillo was tied for the highest score in the Senate in the Business Council’s 2011 legislative scorecard.

Senator Fuschillo earned high marks for supporting legislation which will help businesses grow and create jobs. Senator Fuschillo supported the creation of a permanent “Recharge NY” program to provide low-cost power to businesses so they can create & retain jobs, as well as enhancing the Excelsior Jobs Program to include expanded tax credits to help businesses create jobs. Senator Fuschillo also supported New York State’s new property tax cap law.

FOREST LAKE STUDENTS HELP SENATOR FUSCHILLO COLLECT CELL PHONES FOR SOLDIERS

Students at Forest Lake Elementary School in Wantagh recently helped Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) collect cell phones to benefit soldiers serving overseas. Senator Fuschillo visited the school to personally thank the students for participating in his “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program.

“Forest Lake’s students will really make a difference in the lives of the men and women serving our country overseas. Each cell phone they collected will help bring American servicemen and women closer to home while they’re serving abroad. I thank them for participating in this program and congratulate them on doing such a great job,” said Senator Fuschillo.

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced the start of his annual “Extend the Holidays” toy drive.

“Extend the Holidays” is a toy drive Senator Fuschillo organizes each year for the benefit of children in Winthrop Hospital. Toys are delivered after the holiday season, so that children can experience the joys of receiving a holiday gift throughout the year.

“This is a wonderful tradition which, through the assistance of the community, puts smiles on the faces of many children each year. I welcome anyone who is interested in participating in this program to contact my office,” said Senator Fuschillo.

Students from Shore Road School in Bellmore recently collected several boxes of old, unwanted cell phones for Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr.’s “Cell Phones for Soldiers” program. Senator Fuschillo visited the school to personally pick up the phones and thank students for their efforts.

“Shore Road’s students should be very proud of themselves, because their efforts are really going to make a difference. Each phone they collected will help bring the comfort of home to American soldiers and sailors who are serving our country overseas. I thank them for participating in this program, ” said Senator Fuschillo (R-Merrick).

NEW LIRR SMOKING BAN LAW TAKES EFFECT SUNDAY

Law Bans Smoking on MTA Train Platforms and Boarding Areas

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is reminding residents that a new law he authored to help protect MTA passengers from harmful second hand smoke exposure takes effect Sunday.

The law prohibits smoking at all outdoor ticketing, boarding, and platform areas of train stations operated by the MTA or its subsidiaries, including the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North. The City of New York already enacted a similar law banning smoking on all subway platforms. The law builds upon the existing ban on smoking on indoor mass transportation areas. The law was authored by Senator Fuschillo and Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffe (D-Suffern) and signed by Governor Cuomo on August 15th.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO NAMED “CHAMPION OF SAFER STREETS” BY TRI-STATE TRANSPORTATION CAMPAIGN FOR WORK ON COMPLETE STREETS LAW

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) was recently honored by the Tri-State Transportation Campaign at their 2011 Annual Benefit.

Senator Fuschillo, along with Wantagh resident Sandi Vega and AARP, were chosen as the organization’s 2011 “Champions for Safer Streets” for their work on New York State’s Complete Streets Law. Senator Fuschillo sponsored the law in the Senate. Mrs. Vega, whose 14 year old daughter Brittany was killed while crossing Sunrise Highway last year, and AARP joined Tri-State Transportation Campaign in strongly advocating for the law.
