SENATOR FUSCHILLO INFORMS RESIDENTS ABOUT UPCOMING MORTGAGE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR HURRICANE SANDY VICTIMS

            Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is informing residents about a free mortgage assistance program to help victims of Hurricane Sandy.

            The “Hope for Long Island” program will be held this Saturday, December 15th from 10 am to 7 pm at the Joseph Barry Career & Technical Educational Center, located at 1196 Prospect Avenue in Westbury. The event is being sponsored by the Community Development Corporation of Long Island, the Long Island Housing Partnership, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, NeighborWorks America, and the New York State Attorney General’s Office.

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Long Island Cares recently joined together in sponsoring a free food and supply distribution program to help families recovering from the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

     The program took place at Temple Sinai in Massapequa, where Senator Fuschillo and representatives from Long Island Cares gave out non-perishable food items, baby products, water, cleaning products, and houseware items to help residents in need.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO APPOINTED TO SENATE TASK FORCE FOR HURRICANE SANDY RECOVERY

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) has been appointed to the New York State Senate’s Task Force for Hurricane Sandy Recovery. Senator Fuschillo was appointed to the task force by Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre).     Members of the bipartisan task force will play a pivotal role in developing the short and long-term plans that will help communities affected by the storm to get back on their feet.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES LIRR TO RESUME FULL RUSH HOUR SERVICE ON MONDAY

New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. (R-Merrick), Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee, today announced that the Long Island Rail Road will resume full rush hour service this Monday, December 10th. This marks the first time since Hurricane Sandy that the Long Island Rail Road is operating at full service capacity.

    The program will take place on Thursday, December 6th from 11 am to 2 pm at the corner of Woodcleft Avenue and Front Street at the beginning of the Nautical Mile in Freeport.  Thousands of pounds of food, water, and supplies will be brought in to serve the victims of Hurricane Sandy who are in need. 

     Residents will be able to obtain the following items free of charge:

SENATOR FUSCHILLO CALLS ON THRUWAY AUTHORITY TO REJECT TOLL INCREASE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. is calling on the New York State Thruway Authority Board to reject a proposed 45 percent increase in commercial tolls.

     “The New York State Thruway Authority’s proposed 45 percent increase in tolls is ill-timed, insensitive, and shows that they are completely out of touch with the challenges facing New York. The proposed increase should be rejected immediately,” said Senator Fuschillo (R-Merrick).

     Senator Fuschillo, Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee, stated that the Thruway Authority's proposed increased would have a devastating impact on New Yorkers and called on the Thruway Board to reject any idea of toll increases.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO REMINDS NASSAU RESIDENTS THAT PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION FILING PERIOD IS UNDERWAY

Residents Have Until January 2nd to Apply for STAR & Other Property Tax Exemptions

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is reminding Nassau County residents that the County is currently accepting applications for New York State’s School Tax Relief (STAR) program and other property tax exemptions. Applications must be filed by January 2nd.

     The STAR program works in two parts:

     • Basic STAR is available to all New Yorkers who own and live in their own home, condominium, or cooperative apartment whose adjusted gross income does not exceed $500,000, regardless of age.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO JOINS MAYOR HARDWICK AND VILLAGE OF FREEPORT IN LENDING A HELPING HAND TO FREEPORT RESIDENTS FOR THANKSGIVING

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with Freeport Mayor Andrew Hardwick and Village of Freeport employees and volunteers at the Freeport Recreation Center to help families in need.

     Senator Fuschillo joined Mayor Hardwick and Village of Freeport employees and volunteers in providing free Thanksgiving turkeys and non-perishable food to residents in need. Senator Fuschillo worked with Governor Cuomo’s office to bring turkeys to Freeport.

     “Many Freeport families are still suffering from the effects of Hurricane Sandy. This program is another way to lend a helping hand to these families and make these trying times a little easier for them,” said Senator Fuschillo.
