George A. Jones

Brigadier General George A. Jones has spent nearly his entire life serving his country and community.

His service began in 1939, at age 16, when he enlisted in the New York National Guard. He entered the regular Army in 1941, rose to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1942, and fought in both the European and Pacific Theatres during World War II.  

General Jones returned to the National Guard in 1946 but reentered active duty for the Korean War, commanding an artillery battery. He returned to the National Guard in 1952, where he served another 18 years before retiring as a Brigadier General.

Elizabeth Gulotta

Elizabeth “Betsy” Gulotta has devoted her entire professional career to passing on her love of nature through education and activism.

For over 40 years, Ms. Gulotta has served as an educator at Nassau Community College. As a member of the biology department faculty, she helped generations of students learn about nature through a strong emphasis on hands-on learning. Ms. Gulotta regularly engages her students in ­ eld studies and management projects to help them gain ­first hand experience. Her dedication to education earned her the New York State Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Robert Tom Riordan

Since first becoming a member of the American Legion over twenty years ago, Marine Corps veteran Robert Tom Riordan has worked diligently to improve the lives of veterans in the community.

After joining the American Legion through the DMS program in 1988, Mr. Riordan transferred into the North Bellmore Post the following year. He eventually rose to the position of Post Commander. During his three year tenure as Commander, Mr. Riordan helped spearhead a renovation of the Post’s building so that it could be better utilized by the community.
