Suffocation Deaths of New York State Infants Prompts Call for Proposed Law

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and Senator Stephen M. Saland (R-I-C Poughkeepsie), Ranking Member of the Senate Consumer Protection Committee, have introduced legislation to ban the sale of drop-side cribs in New York State, which have caused the suffocation deaths of at least two New York infants, and 11 infant fatalities nationwide.

Information Security Breach And Notification Act Now State Law

Businesses and government agencies will soon be required to make consumers aware of security breaches now that consumer friendly legislation sponsored by Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) has become law. The "Information Security Breach and Notification Act", which takes effect in early December, will require all companies and state agencies whose files containing consumers’ private financial information are acquired by unauthorized individuals to notify those consumers in New York State.

Many different types of products, from children's toys and baby products to appliances, are recalled for safety reasons. Fortunately, there is an easy way to keep track of these products so that you can keep your family safe.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) allows consumers to view listings of product recalls. Recalls can be searched by company name or product type (toys, baby and child items, home and garden, etc.). You can also sign up to receive email alerts about product recalls.

In addition, you can also report products you believe to be unsafe to the CPSC.

New Law Provides Consumers with More Information on the Origins of Their Pet

          Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently announced that legislation he supported that would allow consumers more protections when purchasing a pet, has been signed into law by Governor Cuomo. The new law would provide consumers with more information about the origins of their pet, and more protections should their pet become ill, under what is known as the “pet lemon law”.
