Legislation Would Disqualify Sex Offenders from Holding Real Estate Appraisers License & Protect Families from Unknowingly Giving Sex Offenders Access to their Homes

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate passed legislation he sponsored to disqualify all convicted sex offenders from obtaining or holding a real estate appraisal license. The legislation is designed to prevent sex offenders from gaining entry into people’s homes.

SENATE PASSES FUSCHILLO LEGISLATION TO PREVENT CRIMINALS FROM ESCAPING JUSTICE THROUGH LEGAL NAME CHANGES

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate has passed legislation he sponsors to prevent criminals from changing their name to avoid the justice system or their legal obligations.

     “Convicted criminals shouldn’t be able to avoid the legal system and hide their criminal histories through a name change. Unfortunately, current law makes it far too easy for them to do that. Stronger safeguards are needed to prevent criminals from using legal name changes to run from the law,” said Senator Fuschillo.

Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice in announcing new legislation to enhance the state’s animal cruelty laws and increase penalties for those who abuse animals. Senator Fuschillo is sponsoring the legislation in the Senate.

SENATE PASSES FUSCHILLO LEGISLATION TO INCREASE PENALTIES FOR IMPERSONATING A POLICE OFFICER

        Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced Senate passage of legislation he sponsors to raise penalties for criminals who impersonate police officers in order to commit crime.

        “Most individuals trust police officers and obey their instructions without question. Criminals posing as police officers abuse that trust in order to prey on unsuspecting victims. Law enforcement should be able to elevate charges in these cases. Under this legislation, that’s exactly what they would be allowed to do,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES APPROVAL OF NEW ANTI-CRIME LEGISLATION

Legislation Would Expand DNA Databank & Provide Enhanced Crime Fighting Tool for Law Enforcement

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently voted in favor of legislation to help better enable law enforcement to use DNA to catch criminals.

     The legislation (S6733) would expand the State’s DNA databank by requiring anyone convicted of a felony or penal law misdemeanor to submit a DNA sample.

Police Officers Would Have Routine Digital Access to an Individual’s Driver License Photo in the Field Under Proposed Law

        Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that the New York State Senate passed legislation he sponsors to give police greater resources to positively identify suspects. The legislation would allow officers to have routine access to DMV driver license photo images when performing their duties.
