Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is informing residents about a program which will provide rebates to residents who purchase high-efficiency refrigerators and clothes washers. The rebate program, which is being administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), will begin on Monday, March 19th.
Following news that LIPA overcharged ratepayers by $231 million, Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), a member of the Senate’s Energy & Telecommunications Committee, and Senator George Maziarz (R-Newfane), Chairman of the Senate’s Energy & Telecommunications Committee, will be holding a public hearing to explore ways to improve oversight of LIPA and ensure that it is accountable to ratepayers.
Senator Fuschillo votes in favor of legislation to give new protections LIPA customers, who pay some of the highest utility bills in the country.
The legislation would require LIPA to obtain approval from the State Public Service Commission before raising rates more than 2.5% in a 12 month period. The legislation is needed to create greater oversight, transparency, and accountability of LIPA's rate practices.
