Legislation Would Add Shingles Vaccine to the List of Vaccinations Pharmacists are Permitted to Administer
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced today that legislation he sponsors to give residents greater access to the shingles vaccine has been passed by the New York State Senate.
The legislation (S3808B) would add the shingles vaccine to the list of immunizations that trained licensed pharmacists are permitted to administer to adults, when ordered by a patient's physician or nurse practitioner.
Legislation Would Prohibit Teens Ages 16 and Under from Using Indoor UV Tanning Devices
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that the New York State Senate has passed legislation he sponsors to help protect teens from the dangers of skin cancer. The legislation (S2917A) would strengthen the state’s indoor tanning law by prohibiting teens ages 16 and under from using indoor ultraviolet (UV) tanning devices.
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently participated in the 2012 Greater New York Lymphomathon, where hundreds walked to raise critical funds for lymphoma research and education. Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that occurs when white blood cells that help protect the body from infection and disease begin behaving abnormally.
Sponsored by the Lymphoma Research Foundation, the Lymphomathon is a non-competitive 5K walk where survivors, family, friends, community and corporate teams walk in honor and in memory of those whose lives have been touched by lymphoma. Hundreds of walkers participated in the event.
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that the New York State Senate passed a legislative resolution he sponsored designating May as “Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month” in New York State.
“Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer, but it is also one of the most treatable if it is detected early. Indoor tanning or even one bad sunburn can greatly increase the risk of developing skin cancer, which is why it’s so important for residents to be safe and get screened. With summer only a few short weeks away, now is the perfect time to remind residents about the importance protecting themselves from skin cancer and being safe while in the sun,” said Senator Fuschillo.
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is partnering with the Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) in sponsoring a first aid supply drive to help individuals in need. All first aid items collected through the drive will be used by the INN to serve families in need throughout our communities.

Law Requires Insurance Companies to Provide Equal Coverage for Oral Chemotherapy
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that Governor Andrew Cuomo recently signed legislation which would give cancer patients greater access to oral chemotherapy. The law, which Senator Fuschillo supported in the Senate, requires insurance companies to provide the same coverage level for oral chemotherapy as intravenous chemotherapy.
