SENATOR FUSCHILLO JOINS WITH WANTAGH COMMUNITY IN PAYING TRIBUTE TO VETERANS ON MEMORIAL DAY

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with members of the Wantagh community in paying tribute to America’s heroes at the annual Wantagh Memorial Day Ceremony.

     The Memorial Day Ceremony is an annual tradition which is organized by members of Wantagh American Legion Post 1273. Wantagh residents, joined by local boy scout and girl scout troops, community organizations, and the Wantagh Fire Department, attended the ceremony to show their appreciation for the veterans who served our country and remember those who made the supreme sacrifice in defense of our nation.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO JOINS WITH MERRICK COMMUNITY IN COMMEMORATING MEMORIAL DAY

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with members of the Merrick and North Merrick community to commemorate Memorial Day at the annual Memorial Day Parade.

     The Merrick/North Merrick Memorial Day Parade is an annual community tradition which pays tribute to the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who served our nation, most especially the ones who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our country. Hundreds of Merokians lined Merrick Avenue between Veterans Plaza and the Veterans Monument at Lee Avenue to view the parade and show their appreciation for our American heroes.

"On Monday, we honor the memories of those who gave their lives in defense of our nation.

Throughout America’s history, generations of men and women have stood up to the forces of tyranny and terror and fought to safeguard our freedom. Some are serving overseas right now, away from their families so we can be with ours. Many never returned home, having given their lives in defense of our country. Every one of these brave soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines deserve our respect, appreciation, and gratitude.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO NAMES NORTH MERRICK MARINE KEVIN VAUGHAN TO STATE SENATE’S VETERANS’ HALL OF FAME

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that Marine Corps Corporal Kevin Vaughan of North Merrick has been selected to the New York State Senate’s Veterans Hall of Fame.

     “Kevin Vaughan is a true American hero who fought bravely and made great sacrifices to defend our country and protect our freedoms. He is a shining example of everything that is right about our country and the men and women of our armed forces. I’m so proud to congratulate him on earning this much deserved honor,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO: STATE BUDGET FUNDS POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER PROGRAM TO HELP VETERANS

Expansion of Veterans’ Healthcare Training Initiative will Help Better Train Healthcare Professionals to Meet the Needs of Combat Veterans

        Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the recently approved state budget contains new funding to help provide improved care for veterans affected by post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health conditions. Almost one in three returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are affected by these illnesses.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO JOINS WITH MERRICK COMMUNITY IN WELCOMING HOME CORPORAL KEVIN VAUGHAN

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with the Merrick community in welcoming home one of its local heroes, Marine Corps Corporal Kevin Vaughan.

     Corporal Vaughan, a 2007 graduate of Mepham High School, was serving his second tour of duty in Afghanistan when he was wounded by a roadside bomb. He lost his left leg and has spent the last several months at Walter Reed Hospital undergoing rehabilitation and physical therapy.

"This Friday, our nation will honor and pay tribute to some of its greatest heroes; our veterans.

America has been, and still is, a beacon of hope for those throughout the world because of the freedoms its citizens enjoy. Those freedoms only exist because of the men and women who fought to protect them throughout our history. Every American veteran deserves our respect, gratitude, and appreciation for their service.

Please take a moment this Veterans’ Day to remember all those who served and sacrificed to protect the freedoms and liberties we all cherish. Thank you to each and every veteran for all you’ve done for our families, our communities, and our country."

SENATOR FUSCHILLO SALUTES THE WOUNDED WARRIORS

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today joined with hundreds of local residents and cyclists in support of the annual Wounded Warriors bike ride. The ride helped raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project, which provides aid to seriously wounded military veterans. As part of the ride, over 30 Wounded Warriors, joined by hundreds of others local residents and cyclists, traveled 23 miles from Babylon Town Hall to Overlook Beach. Senator Fuschillo honored the Wounded Warriors at the ride’s kick-off ceremony hosted by Babylon Town Supervisor Steve Bellone at Babylon Town Hall.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO NAMES ROOSEVELT’S GEORGE JONES TO NEW YORK STATE SENATE’S VETERANS HALL OF FAME

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today inducted Roosevelt veteran George Jones into the New York State Senate’s Veterans Hall of Fame. The Veterans Hall of Fame recognizes veterans from across the state for their extraordinary efforts in combat or for work performed after they were discharged from the service.
